CM Punk took a thinly veiled shot at the current perception of the Republican Party.
Punk spoke with Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement to promote his new movie, Night Patrol. While promoting the film, where Punk plays an evil vampire cop, Punk and Robbie Fox debated the “redeemable qualities” of horror movie icon Michael Myers.
“Is Michael Myers a villain?” Punk asked.
“Do you not think he’s a villain? Do you think he’s a good guy?” Fox replied.
Punk answered that by pointing out A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger is a slasher icon, but he also had a disturbing background. He also used the opportunity to take a dig at members of the Republican Party, who have been accused of being “pedophile protectors” in some circles due to their protection of Donald Trump and their reluctance to release the redacted Epstein Files that could incriminate some high-profile people.
“Listen, man, Freddy Krueger molested children, and people are stoked on him,” Punk said. “I guess that makes him a Republican.”
Freddy Krueger had a sinister backstory
The original A Nightmare on Elm Street was released in 1984. The film told the story of Freddy Krueger, a child killer who ultimately got released on a technicality. His victims’ parents burned him alive for their own form of justice. However, Krueger returned to attack a new generation of children in their dreams.
A remake was released in 2010, and the story was altered to make Krueger a child molester. This is an idea that the original creator, Wes Craven, wanted to do in 1984, but ultimately changed it to Krueger being a child killer.
