Vince McMahon Asked Steve Austin To Stop Using The Middle Finger on WWE TV

Stone Cold Steve Austin is known for his chaotic nature and middle fingers, the latter of which he revealed Vince McMahon didn’t like.

Speaking during an interview with The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, Austin recalled how McMahon was not a fan of Austin flipping off people. Austin noted that McMahon once brought up Diamond Dallas Page and his infamous “diamond cutter” hand sign, and wanted Austin to find his own form of that.

“I remember I was fixing to go out and Vince asked me, he goes, ‘Hey Steve, I see Dallas Page down there and he’s doing that Diamond Cutter sign that everybody does it with him,’ because he wasn’t fan of the middle fingers, he goes, ‘Is there something you could do that everybody could do with you?’ Because the middle fingers is kind of edgy,'” Austin said. “I just looked at him, I didn’t even hesitate, I said ‘No.’ I kept using the middle finger.”

Of course, Austin’s decision proved to be the right one at the time. The star became a legend in and outside of the world of wrestling in part due to his middle finger and nonchalant attitude. McMahon and Austin would also go on to have infamous feuds in the ring, many of which concluded in Austin flipping off McMahon.
