Brock Lesnar Didn’t Even Know WWE Existed Before College

Brock Lesnar says he didn’t know WWE existed until he got to college.

During his recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Brock Lesnar looked back at how he found his way to WWE. He shared that the company reached out to him after he won his NCAA Championship. He also revealed that he signed with the company because he was tired of being broke, and it was the only real offer on the table after finishing his college wrestling career.

“1000% (on joining WWE to make some money). When I won my NCAA title, the WWE approached me because I lived in Minneapolis. I had a big media following there. I mean, back when I was in college, I was the big man on campus. It was me and Kevin Garnett ran Minneapolis,” Brock Lesnar said. They turned me into this unbeatable monster, and I was doing all the radio stuff back then, going down and getting free steaks whenever I wanted. Everywhere I went, there was a pat on the back. So, it was cool.

“But once I was done with my eligibility, I was just tired of being broke. The WWE was the only offer, real offer on the table for me, my only option to go and make some money,” he said.

Brock Lesnar picked up very fast despite not knowing WWE existed until college

Speaking further, Brock Lesnar revealed that he didn’t know pro wrestling and WWE existed until he got to college. Although becoming a pro wrestler was not his dream, he noted that he picked it up fast. The company saw his improvements, which eventually led to him becoming the youngest WWE Champion in history.

“I never watched. I didn’t even know pro wrestling existed until I got to college. Not at all (on WWE not being his dream). Then I got down to OVW, and it just clicked with me. I was like, ‘Well, this isn’t really hard.’ There’s a good guy and a bad guy, and I just picked it up really fast, and the company saw my improvements, and the next thing I know, I’m the youngest WWE Champion in history. I was 24.”

Speaking in the same podcast, Brock Lesnar also opened up about ending the Undertaker’s iconic undefeated streak at WWE WrestleMania 30.
