Brock Lesnar Was Sued By Vince McMahon During ‘Tough Time’ In His Life

Brock Lesnar opens up about Vince McMahon suing him over a non-compete clause following his exit from WWE in 2004.

During his recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ Spittin Chiclets podcast, Brock Lesnar looked back at the hard times he had to face after his exit from WWE in 2004. He recalled getting released from the Minnesota Vikings, the IRS showing up at his doorstep, and, especially, former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suing him over a non-compete clause.

Brock Lesnar had signed a lengthy non-compete clause in 2004, which prevented him from competing for any promotion until 2010. However, he violated it by appearing at a New Japan Pro-Wrestling show in 2005, which led to the lawsuit. The two parties settled the following year.

“I got cut from the Vikings. The IRS showed up at my doorstep. I was in a custody battle for the kid, for my daughter, and I was getting sued by Vince McMahon for a non-compete,” Brock Lesnar said. “It was a tough time in my life, from ’04 to ’06, and there was people, and I won’t mention them, that had helped me through those times, and I was able to get on my feet again. I thank them a lot, and they know who they are, but they helped me out and got me stable, and they believed in me.

Brock Lesnar didn’t even know WWE existed before college

Speaking in the same interview, Brock Lesnar recounted how he found his way into WWE after the end of his college football career. He revealed that he didn’t know WWE or pro wrestling existed until he got to college.

“I never watched. I didn’t even know pro wrestling existed until I got to college. Not at all (on WWE not being his dream). Then I got down to OVW, and it just clicked with me. I was like, ‘Well, this isn’t really hard.’ There’s a good guy and a bad guy, and I just picked it up really fast, and the company saw my improvements, and the next thing I know, I’m the youngest WWE Champion in history. I was 24.”

He also opened up about breaking the Undertaker’s undefeated streak, revealed how he got his iconic chest tattoo, and teased how long his current WWE run will last.
