Major WWE Name Ruled Out As Randy Orton Mystery Caller — Report

This popular WWE name doesn’t appear to be the mystery caller Randy Orton has teased on the road to WrestleMania 42.

The Viper has been teasing a powerful mentor for his Undisputed WWE Title program. Orton initially alluded to the person in a backstage segment during a previous episode of SmackDown. He also told Cody Rhodes, “Wrestling has more than one royal family,” seemingly hinting at the arrival of a key figure.

Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes’ former Legacy teammate, Ted DiBiase Jr., also teased his involvement in a video message. DiBiase was seen talking to a mystery caller and referencing the date of WrestleMania during a stream with his lawyer following the announcement of his verdict in a massive embezzlement case.

The March 30 episode of RAW created more speculation about the mystery caller after Stephanie McMahon interrupted Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare referenced Vince McMahon, leading to speculation that WWE’s former boss might be the powerful mentor Randy Orton has been referring to.

Names like Ric Flair and The Rock have also popped up, with fans suggesting WWE could use the mystery caller angle to pick up Rocky’s unfinished storyline with Rhodes and build up the Undisputed Title program with Orton.

Dave Meltzer addresses The Rock rumors in Randy Orton storyline

However, Dave Meltzer doesn’t think The Rock will be the mystery mentor to Orton, despite fitting the description. In a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote that WWE has denied The Rock’s involvement in the storyline.

“Orton has a mentor who has been teased for weeks and was to be announced on the 4/3 Smackdown show. As noted, while Dwayne Johnson fits the bill and would be the biggest addition for a show that is behind on ticket sales, those in the company have denied the name to us,” Dave Meltzer said.

“As noted before, if it was Johnson, it’s likely to be kept a secret from everyone but Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, and maybe Rhodes and Orton. But my impression is they have a name that at least those in the inner circle are aware of. They could still be working them but they are not of that impression.”
