Fans have always wondered what MJF would be like in the world of WWE, and according to a WWE legend, that “what if?” almost happened.
While at a recent virtual signing (according to Fightful’s transcription), legend and WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg — who worked as WWE SmackDown’s co-lead writer and was a WWE executive until he departed the company in March — revealed that there were actual discussions at WWE to try and bring the superstar into the company when his contract with AEW was ending.
“Yes, a couple times (there were discussions about wanting to bring MJF to WWE),” Road Dogg said. When asked why it didn’t work out, the legend said “We didn’t do it… It was always at a pivotal time and he always had something better to fall down on.”
Road Dogg’s comments suggest there were several periods when they were considering bringing MJF in. While it’s unclear exactly when Dogg is referring to, MJF’s previous contract with AEW ended in 2024.
At the time, MJF noted that he had spoken to WWE, and while he had badmouthed WWE in the past, he noted at the time that he would be loyal to wherever he signed, which ended up being AEW, as he re-signed with the company in 2024. Now, he reigns over the company as its current AEW World Champion.
