Rey Mysterio Confirmed for WrestleMania 42 Ladder Match After WWE RAW Return

A major shake-up hit WWE RAW on April 6 as a returning star, Rey Mysterio, inserted himself into the WrestleMania 42 Intercontinental Championship picture — and it didn’t take long for the stakes to climb, quite literally.

The night featured a six-man tag team match where Penta, Je’Von Evans, and Dragon Lee secured a victory over El Grande Americano and Los Americanos.

However, the real moment came after the bell, when a familiar theme hit and shifted the spotlight.

Rey Mysterio added to WWE WrestleMania 42 Intercontinental Title ladder match

Rey Mysterio made his return from injury and addressed the situation directly in the ring. He revealed that he had spoken with RAW General Manager Adam Pearce and made the case for one more entrant in the already loaded ladder match — himself.

With that, the match was officially expanded. Intercontinental Champion Penta will now defend against Rey Mysterio, Je’Von Evans, Dragon Lee, Rusev, and JD McDonagh at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Penta responded to the announcement with a simple but telling message: “Let’s make history.”

The addition changes the dynamic of a match that already promised chaos. Mysterio, recently sidelined with injury, steps right back into one of WWE’s most high-risk environments.

It’s a move that raises eyebrows and ladders at the same time. Because if there’s one thing synonymous with ladder matches, it’s no safety net.

Before his absence, Mysterio had been lined up for a separate program, but plans shifted during his recovery. Now, instead of easing back in, he’s going all in — a decision that adds both experience and unpredictability to the contest.

With a mix of established names and rising talent, the match now carries even more intrigue heading into WrestleMania weekend.
