Mike Santana Reveals Initial Thought During Steve Maclin Injury Scare at TNA Sacrifice

The main event of TNA Sacrifice on March 27, 2026, didn’t go as planned. The TNA World Championship match between Mike Santana and Steve Maclin came to an abrupt end due to a real injury scare.

The match started strongly, with both wrestlers going at each other. But things changed quickly when Maclin ran off the ropes and walked right into a superkick from Santana. He dropped immediately, and it was clear something was wrong. Maclin’s left hand looked stiff, which could have been a bad sign.

Referee Alice Lane threw up the “X” sign, which means a real injury, and called for medical help. So, the match came to a halt and officials helped Maclin to the back. TNA ended the show with Eddie Edwards’ fight with Santana.

A few days later, Santana spoke about the incident on the Counted Out podcast. He said it was a very scary moment and that it can happen in any physical sport.

“It was definitely a very scary, intense moment. Despite anything that Steve and I may have been going through within the show, Steve is someone that I’ve considered a friend for a long time. And yeah, man, it was scary. But, as we all know, in any sport, whether it’s football, whether it’s baseball, wrestling, whatever it is, there’s things that happen, especially when it’s a physical sport, right? And yeah, I just think that it was one of those instances where it was a freak accident that happened the way that it did,” Santana said.

He also said that once he realized something was wrong, nothing else mattered.

“It sucked as you saw. I was visibly worried. I was visibly upset. And my main concern at that very moment, I was like, screw the match, screw the show, is my friend okay? And thankfully, that he was. And you know when the time comes, I’m sure we’re going to be right back at it,” Santana added.

His words echoed the real bond between the two wrestlers. Moreover, Santana had also tweeted about the incident earlier, where he talked about such “freak accidents” in wrestling and praised the TNA team for acting quickly, especially referee Lane, for putting safety first.
