- Rebellion TNA World Title Contract Signing ft. Mike Santana & Frankie Kazarian
TNA iMPACT Results
Tom Hannifan welcomes us to an all-new TNA broadcast. Tonight, we are kicking things off with a contract signing for the TNA Rebellion World Title match between Mike Santana and Eddie Edwards.
Santino Marella and Daria Rae are in the ring. They have a brief back-and-forth before Rae introduces the challenger, Eddie Edwards.
Marella tries to introduce Santana, but Daria grabs the mic and welcomes the TNA World Champion. Santana makes his way through the crowd to the ring. Marella tells the two men to share their thoughts.
Edwards tells Santana to take a seat. He says their paths to TNA have been similar: both came up from tag team wrestling, both proved naysayers wrong, and both became TNA World Champions, not once but twice. But this is where their similarities end.
Edwards mocks Santana for leaving the company, while he stayed loyal and carried it on his back. He calls out Santana for leaving for greener pastures and references his stint in AEW’s Inner Circle. He lists his accolades, including his reign as the GHC World Champion. Edwards vows to become a three-time TNA World Champion and puts pen to paper.
Santana takes his glasses off because he wants to look Edwards in the eyes while addressing him. Mike says it’s true that he left, but no matter where he went, his heart was always with TNA. He adds that Eddie didn’t leave because he got comfortable and complacent, while Santana returned because he had something to prove.
Santana says Edwards calls himself the Foundation of TNA, but he cracked the foundation with a sledgehammer and became a god in the process. Edwards makes it personal by bringing Santana’s daughter into the mix. Santana is irate but responds by saying that Edwards’ wife had bigger balls than him when he left The System with Moose.
Both men get in each other’s faces, but Cedric Alexander attacks Santana from behind. The champion has the odds stacked against him, but TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater arrives to make the save. Santana and Slater take out Alexander with a double clothesline before Slater performs his signature dive to the outside, taking out both members of The System.
The segment ends with the TNA World and X Division Champions taunting their Rebellion challengers from the ring.
Storytime with AJ Francis
AJ Francis takes us back to 2018, when he enrolled in Team 3D Academy. He recounts receiving a call from his agent about an opportunity with the Cleveland Browns. Francis says he told his agent he would rather learn how to wrestle and make no money than be anywhere else.
Fast forward to the present, and Francis is in the ring with Cleveland’s own Nic Nemeth. He explains that he attacked Nemeth because Nemeth took opportunities from him. Francis says he took the most precious thing from Nemeth, his health.
Francis calls himself the best big man in wrestling and caps off the promo with his “money, money, money” catchphrase.
Jada Stone vs. Dani Luna
- The finish of the match saw Jada Stone plant Dani Luna with a twisting moonsault for the win.
Winner: Jada Stone
Stone gets little time to celebrate, as she is attacked by Tasha Steelz from behind. The Press Secretary of TNA snuffs out The Spark with a piledriver to cap off the angle.
Grade: B-
Dani Luna had world title potential, but it appears visa issues affected those plans. For those unaware, Luna was granted her release request on March 31. This match against Jada Stone marks her final TNA TV appearance.
She last competed live for the promotion at TNA Sacrifice in a triple threat match for the Knockouts Title against Arianna Grace and Lei Ying Lee. This writer looks forward to Luna bringing doomsday elsewhere.
As for Jada Stone, the post-match angle appears to have set up a match against Tasha Steelz at TNA Rebellion.
Elijah gets attacked at a cemetery
We get a cinematic vignette of Elijah walking through a cemetery. A kid approaches The Drifter and tells him that he and his dad were big fans, asking if Elijah would pray for his father. Elijah tells the kid to lead the way.
The kid stops midway, only to reveal a plot by Frankie Kazarian. Kaz ambushes Elijah and hands the kid $20, who complains that he was promised $100. Kaz tells the kid to go away and then cuts a promo on Elijah before walking off.
Elegance Brand sets up Taryn Terrell for a beatdown
Taryn Terrell comes to the ring. She says her career didn’t end according to her wishes, but she’s happy to watch the company grow. The former TNA Knockout brings up Elegance Brand’s feud with Mickie James. She warns Ash about messing with her before the rest of Elegance Brand shows up.
The Elegance Brand engages in a war of words with Taryn Terrell. The Personal Concierge asks why Terrell is all alone, questioning where Mickie James and ODB are. A video plays on the screen, revealing James and ODB laid out by The Elegance Brand.
The group then gangs up on Taryn Terrell, who eventually falls to their collective attack. Mr. Elegance takes out security with a modified version of Sister Abigail. He then slams Taryn Terrell, setting her up for Heather and M to hit their tag team finisher.
The Personal Concierge grabs the mic and says they will bury the past at Rebellion.
Santino gets his Cobra back
Santino Marella is backstage with Arianna Grace and Stacks. Things escalate quickly when Stacks tells Santino that Arianna is no longer under his control. The TNA Director of Authority responds by punching his future son-in-law in the face. Another right hand follows, prompting the couple to run.
Santino follows them all the way to the Knockouts locker room. He hesitates but Indi Hartwell shows up and they both go in to kick Arianna and Stacks’ collective asses.
Marella and Hartwell emerge from the locker room. Indi is wearing Stacks’ glasses. They compliment each other before Indi reveals she has Santino’s Cobra inside her pocket.
BDE vs. Frankie Kazarian
- The finish of the match saw Frankie Kazarian reverse BDE’s cutter with a backstabber before applying a chickenwing submission for the win.
Winner: Frankie Kazarian
Ryan Nemeth gets in the ring to congratulate Kazarian. He then taunts BDE, only to get slapped in the face. Nemeth sets BDE up for Kazarian to attack, but the lights go out with the sound of a guitar string.
When the lights come back on, it’s Elijah. He tries to choke out Kazarian with his scarf, but Ryan Nemeth blocks the attempt and eats a forearm instead. We then see Elijah chase Kazarian off to the back.
Grade: B+
I didn’t enjoy Ryan Nemeth on commentary; he was unbearable. As for BDE, he had bursts of a comeback, but Kazarian wasn’t going to lose. Elijah’s appearances out of nowhere are always fun to watch. Looking forward to what’s next for The Drifter.
Elayna Black vs. Myla Grace
- The finish of the match saw Elayna Black plant Myla Grace with The Blackout for the win.
Winner: Elayna Black
Grade: B-
Myla Grace looked solid in her singles debut on TNA iMPACT. The future of the Knockouts Division looks promising. As for Elayna, the win puts her a step closer to a potential shot at the Knockouts World Championship.
TNA talent suspended
Daria Rae questions Santino Marella for putting his hands on talent, referencing the earlier brawl with Stacks. She tells Santino he is suspended.
Indi Hartwell shows up to plead Marella’s case. In doing so, Hartwell briefly touches Daria, who takes it as an assault. Daria then tells Indi she is suspended as well.
Both Santino and Indi try to argue, but are told to leave the room. We then see Daria grinning at the development.
Ricky Sosa and Eric Young get into a fight
Gia Miller welcomes Ricky Sosa to the TNA roster. Miller asks Sosa about his future aspirations. Sosa says he is excited to be a part of TNA. He is then interrupted by Eric Young, who calls Ricky a pretender. EY calls himself the gatekeeper of TNA.
Sosa says he has never disrespected Young. Young puts his hands on Sosa, and Sosa tells him to back off and face him in the ring if he is a problem. EY hesitates but delivers a cheap shot. Both make their way to the ring, where Young attempts a piledriver but Sosa evades.
We then see several European uppercuts from The Young Savage. However, Sosa gets distracted by the crowd, allowing EY to jump him and cap off the attack with a piledriver. On a sidenote, Sosa sold that piledriver brilliantly.
Former TNA star appears on iMPACT
This week’s vignette picks up from where we left off last week. Tessa Blanchard is in the Undead Realm, questioning Father James Mitchell about her whereabouts. The video also features Mara Sade, Allie (aka The Bunny), Mila Moore, Victoria Crawford, and Rosemary herself.
AMC cheekily drops their horror-themed lineup during the vignette. But the biggest surprise is the return of Joseph Park as Abyss.
Mustafa Ali addresses TNA Rebellion match
Mustafa Ali and Order 4 are in the ring. Ali gets straight to business and calls out TNA International Champion Trey Miguel, who wastes no time getting into the ring.
Ali references Tasha Steelz’s beatdown of Jada Stone. He says he has no problem with Miguel being International Champion; it’s the culture in TNA that he has a problem with. Ali calls stars like Jeff and Miguel screwups who needed second chances to make things right. Unlike Miguel, Ali claims he doesn’t have a shady past. He also references Miguel’s troubled history with the law.
Miguel fires back, saying the reason Ali isn’t a champion is because he is a “scumbag and a coward.” The International Champion says it’s true he needed second chances, just like people in the crowd might have had. Miguel says TNA welcomed him back with open arms because he always treated the company like family.
Ali responds that family is something Miguel doesn’t have, unlike Ali, who has Order 4 as his brothers and sisters. He adds that Miguel doesn’t even have The Rascalz anymore and mocks him with the Rascalz taunt. Miguel insists The Rascalz are still his brothers.
Ali tells Order 4 to leave the ring so he can take on Miguel alone. Of course, it is a setup. Ali signals Special Agent Zero to slam Miguel into the crowd, but Moose shows up to make the save. The Face of the Franchise clears the ring before taking out Ali with a spear. Miguel goes for the turnbuckle move, but Order 4 grabs Ali and pulls him to safety. Miguel, Moose, and Alisha Edwards stand tall while Ali and Order 4 regroup on the outside.
The Hardys (c) vs. The Righteous – TNA World Tag Tag Team Championship Tables Match
- The finish of the match saw Jeff Hardy put Vincent through a table with a Swanton Bomb for the win.
Winners and still TNA World Tag Team Champions: The Hardys
The post-match celebration is cut short by Dutch, who destroys both Matt and Jeff by sending them through another table in the ring with a pounce. The Righteous regroup on the outside while The Hardys are left laid out.
Grade: B+
The Hardys vs. The Dudley Boyz at Royal Rumble 2000 will remain the greatest tables match in pro wrestling history. No other match comes close, not even the one that main evented this week’s TNA iMPACT. That said, it was a solid way to close the go-home show for Rebellion. With The Hardys not at 100 percent, their chances of walking out of the PPV against Bear Bronson and Brian Myers appear slim.
Overall Grade: B-
This week’s episode was a mix of good and okay. The two segments that stood out were Ricky Sosa taking a beating at the hands of Eric Young and Santino Marella and Indi Hartwell attacking Stacks and Arianna Grace in the Knockouts locker room.
The Rosemary vignette dragged on for too long, and the time could have been better used in the main event match instead.
I’m interested to see how TNA utilizes Abyss after reintroducing him this week.
That’s it for tonight, and this writer will be back with TNA iMPACT coverage next week.
