TNA iMPACT Results
It’s time for the final TNA iMPACT before Slammiversary!
The Hardys Arrive In The iMPACT Zone
We kick things off in wonderful fashion as The Hardys (Broken Matt and Brother Nero) arrive in the iMPACT Zone. Matt and Jeff will be in action this Sunday at Slammiversary, where they’ll face The Righteous and The System in a three-way ladder match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
The Denver crowd gives The Hardys a loud ovation. Matt begins the promo with his signature “Yes!” He says The Hardys have been reborn after stepping into the Wicked Garden, which changed them, broke their bodies, and even poisoned them, referencing Jeff being choked with “Lily of the Valley” by Vincent. Matt says they will ascend to a higher level, as they are currently Broken Matt Version 1 and Brother Nero Version 1. Jeff adds a touch of his trademark mysticism to the promo before Matt promises that they will reclaim the TNA World Tag Team Championship at Slammiversary.
The Righteous interrupt. Vincent takes credit for bringing back the Broken version of The Hardys. Dutch chimes in, saying they broke The Hardys in the Wicked Garden. Matt calls Dutch “delightfully naive” because they have no idea what they’ve awakened inside The Hardys.
The System’s music hits, and TNA World Tag Team Champions Bear Bronson and Brian Myers make their way to the ring. Myers trash-talks their Slammiversary opponents as they head to the ring. Bronson says they don’t care about The Hardys or The Righteous, and they certainly don’t care what the TNA fans think of them. He promises that The System will “eat you alive” and leave Slammiversary “draped in gold.”
Matt accidentally says The Hardys will retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship before quickly correcting himself and saying they’ll reclaim the titles. He then yells “Delete!” and attacks The Righteous on the apron, sparking a brawl between the three teams. Jeff introduces a ladder into the ring and teases a dive from the top, but The System and The Righteous sense the danger and retreat. The segment ends with The Hardys standing tall inside the ring, staring down The Righteous and The System.
Good news for The Great Hands
Daria Rae is upset over the chaos that unfolded in the ring earlier tonight. Order 4 arrives, but Daria tells Mustafa Ali that she’s still working on finding the best opponent for him at Slammiversary. She then rewards The Great Hands (John Skyler and Jason Hotch) for their exemplary employee behavior by adding them to the TNA World Tag Team Championship Ladder Match at Slammiversary, turning it into a four-way bout. Daria exits the frame as Order 4 celebrates the announcement, delighted by the development.
Ash By Elegance Vs. Mara Sade
Ash by Elegance is met with loud “She’s a mark!” chants from the Denver crowd. The former TNA Knockouts World Champion grabs a microphone and screams that she’s not a mark before proclaiming that she needs another mental health break. M by Elegance then takes Ash’s place in the match against Mara Sade.
As Sade unloads with right and lefts on M, Elayna Black appears on the entrance ramp and has a brief exchange with Ash, who is heading to the back with the Personal Concierge. Meanwhile, the match continues inside the ring.
Elayna Black attacks Indi Hartwell at ringside before causing a disqualification by assaulting Mara Sade. She then joins forces with Heather and M by Elegance to continue the beatdown on Hartwell and Sade. Rosemary and Allie eventually make their way to the ring to even the odds, sending The Elegance Brand retreating. Commentary uses the post-match chaos to hype The Undead Realm’s Knockouts World Tag Team Championship match against The Elegance Brand at TNA Slammiversary.
Grade: C+
Despite TNA teasing Indi Hartwell vs. Elayna Black, it looks like both may be sitting out Slammiversary. Personally, I feel this match should have made it onto the pay-per-view card. That said, there’s still a chance we could see an official announcement later during TNA iMPACT tonight.
As for Mara Sade vs. M by Elegance, I wasn’t a big fan of how it played out. M didn’t get much offense despite heading into Slammiversary as one-half of the Knockouts World Tag Team Champions, which made the match feel a bit one-sided.
Eric Young Cuts A Promo On Ricky Sosa
Eric Young appears in a vignette to address his Slammiversary match against Ricky Sosa. Young believes Sosa hasn’t earned his place yet because he arrived with a smile on his face. Presenting himself as one of TNA’s old guard, Young says he’s looking to make an example out of newcomers like Sosa. While he insists he has nothing personal against the international sensation, Young believes there are levels to this business and guarantees Sosa will learn that lesson at Slammiversary.
AJ Francis Vs. Manny Lemons
- The finish saw AJ Francis plant Manny Lemons with his Spear-Chokeslam combination to score the victory.
Winner: AJ Francis
AJ Francis is about to celebrate his victory when he is interrupted by Elijah on the big screen. The Drifter calls Francis out for trying to steal his name and likeness, even comparing him to Suge Knight before revealing a cease-and-desist letter Francis allegedly sent him.
Elijah says he has already spoken to his lawyer, then proceeds to light the document on fire, vowing to take his name and likeness back from Francis at Slammiversary. As the paper turns to ash, Francis is seen fuming in the ring.
Grade: B+
Manny Lemons is definitely a classic jobber name, and yes, he got squashed by AJ Francis. That said, I’m looking forward to Elijah vs. AJ Francis at Slammiversary. The feud has been entertaining to watch so far.
Xia Brookside vs. Harley Hudson
- The finish of the match saw Xia Brookside hit Harley Hudson with Darkside to score the win.
Winner: Xia Brookside
Brookside engages in a post-match assault, attempting to lock Hudson in a submission. TNA Knockouts World Champion Lei Ying Lee shows up, causing Brookside to retreat.
Grade: B-
I believe TNA had plans for Harley Hudson and Myla Grace to capture the Knockouts World Tag Team Championship prior to Grace’s departure. Her exit put Hudson in a sink-or-swim situation, and she’s done a decent job so far in her solo run. As for her match against Xia Brookside, it was nothing extraordinary.
Slammiversary World Championship Summit
The Slammiversary World Title Summit airs. TNA President Carlos Silva asks Mike Santana and Nic Nemeth to avoid physicality or they will be heavily fined, then requests their final comments ahead of Sunday’s World Title match.
Nemeth congratulates Santana on having a “good year” but claims he’s been doing it for 23 years. Santana takes offense at Nemeth’s remarks and brings up his tragic backstory, reflecting on the personal hardships he endured, including battling addiction and staring through the windows of rehab centers. He says he made TNA his priority from day one and helped carry the brand on his back while Nemeth was touring in Australia.
Nemeth then makes things personal by bringing Santana’s daughter and father into the discussion. Santana gets to his feet, prompting Carlos Silva to tell him to calm down. Santana insists he’s got it under control before asking Silva, “Cheque or cash?” and then laying out Nemeth with a right hand.
Santana unleashes a flurry of F-bombs, telling Nemeth he warned him. Ryan Nemeth then jumps Santana from behind, but Santana shrugs it off and tries to choke out Nemeth. Nic Nemeth attacks from behind, slamming Santana’s head multiple times into the table before finishing the assault by driving him into the TNA World Title belt.
The Nemeths then walk away as Nic calls Santana a “bitch.”
Tom Hannifan brings up the World Championship Summit from earlier today, noting that Santana was taken to a local hospital in Denver after Nemeth slammed his head multiple times into the table. The commentary team says they hope to have a medical update on the TNA World Champion soon.
Who Will Surrender At TNA Slammiversary?
Moose is in the ring with JDC, who will be in his corner against Eddie Edwards at Slammiversary. The commentary team notes that the only way the match can end is if either Alisha Edwards or JDC throws in the towel.
Moose criticizes Eddie for stabbing him and JDC in the back, promising that payback is a b**ch. Eddie and Alisha Edwards then interrupt. Eddie claims he didn’t destroy anything, before calling Moose and JDC “cancers” for preventing the growth of The System. He says they cut out the disease to rebuild themselves. Eddie also brings up the fact that Slammiversary is taking place in his hometown of Boston, where he will end his feud with Moose once and for all.
JDC takes over and says he has known Eddie for 25 years, longer than anyone else in his life. While he doesn’t take Eddie’s actions personally because “that’s business,” he warns Eddie that everyone he knows will eventually leave him, including his wife and daughter. Alisha snatches the mic and warns JDC to keep her daughter’s name out of his mouth. She then tells JDC to bring his wife so she can slap her.
Alisha tries to provoke Moose further by daring him to take his revenge and spear her. Moose and JDC step out of the ring, but Alisha continues to antagonize them. Moose re-enters and teases a spear, but JDC pulls him back. Eddie tells them both to leave the ring, saying they will settle everything at Slammiversary. Alisha says she would rather die than throw in the towel. Moose grabs a mic and promises a funeral at Slammiversary as the segment comes to a close.
Ricky Sosa Vignette On TNA iMPACT
A vignette airs from Ricky Sosa’s perspective ahead of his TNA Slammiversary debut against Eric Young.
Frankie Kazarian, Cedric Alexander and Mr. Elegance vs. Leon Slater, Fabian Aichner and KC Navarro
- The finish of the match saw Frankie Kazarian roll up Leon Slater to pick up the win for his team.
Winners: Frankie Kazarian, Cedric Alexander, and Mr. Elegance
Grade: A-
If that was a preview of things to come at TNA Slammiversary, then the X-Division match is going to be epic. All competitors in the match delivered. Frankie Kazarian capitalized on his veteran instincts by rolling up Slater for the win.
These Two Want To Kill Each Other
Nic Nemeth is out here to share a little bit of breaking news. Nemeth claims Santana is not only going to make it to Slammiversary, but will also never return to in-ring competition because of what happened backstage. He then asks TNA President Carlos Silva to come out to the ring and crown “your new TNA World Champion.”
The camera pans to the ramp, where Ryan Nemeth appears as if he’s been thrown around. A battered and bloody Mike Santana then emerges and attacks Ryan. Security intervenes before Santana and Nic can come to blows. Carlos Silva and Daria Rae also arrive to control the chaos.
Santana attacks several security guards and gets inside the ring, taunting Nic to join him. Santino Marella instructs security to escort Nic to the back. The show ends with Santana riling up the crowd before climbing the barricade to join them.
Overall Grade: B-
I’m wondering if TNA could have done a better job if the show had been live tonight, because it felt like it underdelivered overall. The six-man tag team match was definitely the match of the night. Santana and Nic also did a great job building their feud, and Nic’s jab at Silva over his frequent on-screen appearances was a nice touch of humor.
However, the rest of the show failed to hit the mark. Hopefully, Slammiversary will turn things around in terms of storytelling and in-ring action. That’s it for tonight, and don’t forget to tune into WrestleZone for our live coverage of Slammiversary this Sunday.
