AEW Dynasty Results: Review, Grades, Card For April 12

Our AEW Dynasty results go live tonight. The event emanates from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with a stacked card featuring multiple championship implications and high-stakes matchups. The pre-show sets the tone with three matches, including Jack Perry defending his AEW National Championship against Mark Davis.

Moving into the main card, Adam Cope and Christian Cage step into the title picture as they challenge FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Elsewhere, Chris Jericho makes his in-ring return against The Demand’s Ricochet. Also scheduled is Jon Moxley vs. Will Ospreay for the AEW Continental Championship in one of the most anticipated bouts of the night.

The vacant AEW National Championship will also be decided in a Casino Gauntlet match, following Kyle Fletcher’s injury that forced him to relinquish the title. In the main event, the AEW Men’s World Championship is on the line as the current champion, MJF, defends against Kenny Omega, the very man he previously defeated to become the longest-reigning AEW World Champion in his first reign.

AEW Dynasty Zero Hour Results

Renee Paquette welcomes viewers to AEW Dynasty Zero Hour. She is joined on the panel by Jeff Jarrett, RJ City, and Paul Wight. The panel quickly runs down the pre-show lineup and announces the opening match, as NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Alex Windsor faces Death Riders’ Marina Shafir in a non-title bout.

Alex Windsor vs. Marina Shafir

  • The finish of the match saw Windsor hit Shafir with the Rivertain Driver for the win.

Winner: Alex Windsor

AEW Star Returns After Lengthy Hiatus

Footage from earlier in the day airs, showing Willow Nightingale preparing to cut a promo. Before she can speak, the AEW TBS Champion is blindsided by the returning Kamille. The former NWA Women’s World Champion launches a brutal assault, repeatedly sending Nightingale crashing into a metal shutter.

The broadcast then cuts back to the panel, where Paquette confirms that Kamille will be in action later during the AEW Dynasty pre-show.

Kamille vs. Big Anne

  • The finish of the match saw Kamille plant Big Anne with a Blue Thunder Bomb for the win.

Winner: Kamille

After the match, Kamille’s celebration is cut short when Nightingale confronts her. Despite being warned by medical staff not to get involved, the AEW TBS Champion ignores their advice and steps into harm’s way. Kamille capitalizes instantly, launching another attack. “The Brickhouse” overwhelms Nightingale with a series of clotheslines in the corner before ending the assault with a vicious pump kick.

Jack Perry (c) vs. Mark Davis – AEW National Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Jack Perry counter Mark Davis’ lariat attempt into a hurricanrana, rolling through into a pinfall for the win.

Winner and still AEW National Champion: Jack Perry

Divine Dominion (Lena Kross and Megan Bayne) (c) vs. Hyan and Maya World – AEW Women’s World Tag Team Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Lena Kross and Megan Bayne deliver a double chokeslam to Hyan to secure the win.

Winners and still AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions: Divine Dominion

AEW Dynasty Results

It’s time for the AEW Dynasty main show!

The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) vs. The Don Callis Family (Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita)

  • The finish of the match saw The Young Bucks deliver the Meltzer Driver to Kazuchika Okada to pick up the win.

Winners: The Young Bucks

Grade: A+

They couldn’t have picked a better match to kick off the AEW Dynasty main show. Okada and Takeshita may be out for each other’s blood, but when the moment calls for it, they work together like a well-oiled machine.

For those claiming Okada is a shell of his former self in AEW, just look at the incredible character work he’s been delivering. For context, the Bucks gear spot was hilarious, and The Bucks were excellent as always. Nick Jackson’s athleticism, in particular, continues to stand out.

The biggest takeaway from the match was Takeshita allowing The Bucks to hit the Meltzer Driver on Okada. With a rematch at AEW Double or Nothing seemingly imminent, the anticipation is already building.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricochet

  • The finish of the match saw Ricochet hit Chris Jericho with the Lionsault for the win.

Winner: Ricochet

Grade: A-

Jericho may be past his physical prime, but he can still elicit a reaction from the crowd like few others. Shoutout to the Canadian crowd for the singalong during his entrance. That was a spectacular response.

This match turned out to be better than expected, with much of the credit going to Ricochet for doing the heavy lifting. That said, Jericho had his moments as well, including a stunning counter where he reversed a shooting star press into a Codebreaker, which was a thing of beauty.

Ricochet picking up the win using Jericho’s own Lionsault finisher was the ultimate insult to injury.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Darby Allin

  • The finish of the match saw Darby Allin modify the Scorpion Deathlock into a pinfall for the win.

Winner: Darby Allin

After the match, Andrade acknowledges Darby Allin’s victory by extending his hand for a handshake. Darby accepts, and Andrade raise his hand as the crowd delivers a standing ovation for the two men.

Grade: A-

Darby Allin genuinely makes me uncomfortable with some of the wild spots he pulls off. At times, it feels like he isn’t made of flesh and bone. Both men wrestled with a sense of desperation, especially when Andrade planted Darby with a suplex on the outside. Andrade’s gear reveal also got a huge pop from the Vancouver crowd, which added to the moment.

Andrade showing respect to Darby strongly hints that a full-fledged babyface turn could be on the horizon.

FTR (c) vs. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage – AEW World Tag Team Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Harwood and Wheeler hit the Shatter Machine on Copeland for the win.

Winners and still AEW World Tag Team Champions: FTR

Grade: B+

Copeland came out in tribute gear to his former persona, Edge, which was a nice touch. While the match was clearly storyline-driven, I found myself somewhat disconnected from the action. Maybe it’s because I’m still not over the fact that Copeland came in and stole Christian’s thunder. Christian’s solo run in AEW has featured some of the best heel work in the company.

That said, credit to FTR for retaining the titles after a hard-fought match.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Rush vs. Bandido vs. Mike Bailey vs. El Clon vs. PAC vs. Daniel Garcia vs. Anthony Bowens vs. Kevin Knight vs. Wheeler Yuta – AEW National Title Casino Gauntlet Match

  • The finish of the match saw Kevin Knight plant Daniel Garcia with a UFO Splash for the win.

Winner and new AEW TNT Champion: Kevin Knight

Grade: A-

While this match may have felt more appropriate for Dynamite or Collision, the in-ring action was spectacular throughout. Bandido once again impressed with a deadlift 21 Plex that drew a strong reaction.

Kevin Knight’s victory was a surprise, but it opens the door for a potential future feud with tag team partner Mike Bailey, which is an intriguing direction moving forward.

Thekla (c) vs. Jamie Hayter – AEW Women’s World Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Thekla reverse Hayter’s pinfall attempt into a pinfall of her own, using the ring ropes for leverage to steal the win.

Winner and still AEW Women’s World Champion: Thekla

Grade: B+

Another challenger falls to Thekla as “The Toxic Spider” extends her AEW Women’s World Championship reign beyond AEW Dynasty. The controversial finish suggests the feud between Hayter and Thekla is far from over.

The Brawling Birds can now shift their focus to the tag team titles, while Tony Khan looks for the next challenger to step up against Thekla.

Jon Moxley (c) vs. Will Ospreay – AEW Continental Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Jon Moxley spike Will Ospreay with the Death Rider DDT for the win.

Winner and still AEW Continental Champion: Jon Moxley

Grade: B+

The payoff didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I actually enjoyed the build-up more than the match itself. Ospreay started strong, landing back-to-back Hidden Blades in the early going, but his ego ultimately got the better of him, allowing Moxley to systematically tear apart “The Aerial Assassin.”

Moxley also drove Ospreay into the steel steps with a brutal piledriver on the outside, shifting the momentum decisively in his favor. In the end, Moxley’s reign with the Continental Championship continues, while Ospreay finds himself slipping back to the end of the line.

Huge Title Match Set for AEW Dynamite This Wednesday

Renee Paquette congratulates Darby Allin on his victory over Andrade El Idolo earlier at AEW Dynasty.

Allin says there’s no better place to challenge for the AEW World Championship than the place where his career began, Washington. He adds that he is looking forward to facing whoever walks out of the AEW Dynasty main event between MJF and Kenny Omega.

Look Who Just Showed Up to AEW Dynasty

Roderick Strong tells Orange Cassidy to stop being lazy. Their door knocks, and Strong asks who is there.

The door opens to reveal Kyle O’Reilly, confirming him as the third man of The Conglomeration as they step up to challenge The Dogs for the AEW World Trios Championships.

The Dogs make their entrance. David Finlay destroys the door, while Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd mock The Conglomeration by humping their sofa.

The Dogs vs. The Conglomeration – AEW World Trios Title Match

Gabe Kidd appears to have been hurt and was seen favoring his wrist. Bryan Danielson on commentary notes that Kidd will need medical attention.

Fans on social media are already concerned about his status, though nothing has been officially confirmed at the time of this writing.

  • The finish of the match saw Kyle O’Reilly force Clark Connors to submit to an ankle lock for the win.

Winners and new AEW World Trios Champions: The Conglomeration

Grade: C+

Gabe Kidd seemingly suffered an injury and was removed from the match. It also appears his injury may have prompted AEW to call an audible and put the titles on The Conglomeration. The Dogs had just won the Trios Championships on Collision, and I originally had them retaining here as well.

Prayers for Gabe Kidd as we now move on to the AEW Dynasty main event.

MJF (c) vs. Kenny Omega – AEW World Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw MJF put Kenny Omega through a table with a tombstone piledriver before securing the win with the Heat Seeker.

Winner and still AEW World Champion: MJF

MJF needs help walking up the ramp but shoves a security guard away. He then makes his way to the stage where his chair is already set in place.

MJF sits down, throws up the horns, and raises the World Championship for everyone to see. The show goes off the air with MJF shouting, “I’m the devil,” as the ground beneath him slowly descends in a symbolic visual, representing “The Devil” returning to his throne in hell after defeating “The God of Pro Wrestling.”

Grade: A+

This will go down as one of the greatest main events in All Elite Wrestling history. Not only did MJF defeat Kenny Omega at 100%, he also became the first man in AEW history to kick out of the One Winged Angel.

We even saw Omega hit an avalanche One Winged Angel, but Friedman somehow found the wherewithal to escape and get out of the ring.

Toward the closing stretch, Kenny turned the match into a near shoot, unloading with real-looking fists and kicks on MJF, adding an intense sense of desperation to the final moments.

I really liked the analogy AEW drew with Friedman descending to the ground, as if he’s “The Devil” returning to his throne after his victory over the “God of Pro Wrestling,” Kenny Omega.

Overall Grade: A-

The terrific opener featuring The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, and Konosuke Takeshita set the tone perfectly. Takeshita’s potential betrayal of Okada could also be planting the seeds for a major showdown at Double or Nothing.

The Darby Allin vs. Andrade match was another MOTY contender and one of the standout performances of the night. FTR vs. Cope and Christian was a solid, story-driven tag team encounter, while the Casino Gauntlet match delivered plenty of fun chaos throughout.

Thekla vs. Jamie Hayter was decent, though not spectacular, and Jon Moxley vs. Will Ospreay ultimately fell short of expectations despite strong build-up.

The suspected injury to Gabe Kidd clearly impacted the flow and direction of the Trios Championship match, which seemed to shift on the fly given the situation.

However, the main event was absolutely terrific and may have solidified MJF as the greatest World Champion in AEW history.

Overall, a strong show with several standout highs, a few underwhelming stretches, and a main event that delivered in a big way.
