Shawn Michaels explains how fatherhood impacted his professional life.
In a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez, WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative, Shawn Michaels was asked whether his coaching role in WWE NXT helped him become a better father.
Michaels noted that becoming a father has actually had the opposite effect, shaping him into a better coach by teaching him responsibility and the importance of earning and honoring trust. He drew parallels between raising his children and mentoring young talent in NXT, where athletes rely on coaches to help them achieve their dreams of becoming WWE Superstars.
“Well, I think me being a father is probably what’s helped me become a better coach. To be perfectly honest, my kids were a huge part of my life changing. That responsibility made me grow up in a lot of ways, and it also helped me understand the idea of innocence putting its faith in your hands,” Shawn Michaels said.
Shawn Michaels on training WWE NXT talent
“That’s one of the responsibilities we take very seriously in NXT. These young men and women come through our doors trusting us to help them achieve their dream of becoming WWE Superstars. It’s something we don’t take lightly.
“So I’d actually say it works the other way around. Being a father has had such a huge impact on my life, and it’s helped me better appreciate the responsibility that comes with the trust these athletes place in us to help them achieve their dreams.”
Michaels emphasized that this responsibility is taken seriously and noted that the current system aims to be more supportive than past training environments. He also credited Triple H for establishing a positive culture in NXT, which they are committed to maintaining and improving over time.
