Paul Heyman has shed light on WWE’s shifting plans for WrestleMania 42. He revealed that the road to this year’s main events took more than one unexpected detour.
With Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton set to headline Night One and Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk closing Night Two in Las Vegas, the final card looks locked in. However, according to Heyman, it wasn’t always written that way.
Paul Heyman details snubbed WrestleMania 42 main event plans
In a recent Instagram video interview with Jacob Heyman, Heyman openly admitted frustration over missing out on a WrestleMania main event for the first time in six years. More notably, he outlined two separate headline matches that were originally planned but ultimately scrapped.
“I don’t think it’s a big secret that everything was driving this year to be Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns, and then that fell apart,” Heyman said. “And then it was going to be Bron Breakker vs. CM Punk, and that fell apart.”
Those plans changed due to circumstances outside creative control. Rollins’ injury forced a major pivot, while Breakker’s situation also led to a reshuffle. Heyman’s revelation suggested that even WrestleMania booking can take a few unexpected bumps along the way.
Heyman didn’t hide his disappointment either. “Yeah, it pisses me off,” he said, before adding, “I was in line to be a part of the main event this year, but fate intervened not once but even twice.”
The changes didn’t just affect matchups — they altered Heyman’s own role on the biggest stage. Despite that, he remains involved in WrestleMania 42. He is set to accompany Brock Lesnar for his match against Oba Femi on Night Two.
While the final card now centers around Rhodes vs. Orton and Reigns vs. Punk, Heyman’s comments highlight just how fluid the process can be behind the curtain. Or, in wrestling terms, plans can change faster than a surprise roll-up.
As WrestleMania 42 unfolds, the spotlight shifts to the matches that made it — even if the original blueprint never got its pinfall.
