MJF Set for New Title Opportunity After AEW Championship Loss on Dynamite

Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) didn’t waste time addressing his AEW World Championship loss on the April 22 episode of AEW Dynamite, quickly shifting focus toward a new opportunity — though not without stirring the pot first.

Just one week removed from dropping the title to Darby Allin at Spring BreakThru, MJF opened the show in a fiery mood, making it clear he wasn’t ready to exit the title picture quietly.

Friedman, still fuming over what he called the “Seattle Screwjob,” accused Darby Allin of winning under questionable circumstances.

He referenced his prior match with Kenny Omega and claimed he entered the title defense less than 100 percent, insisting the result didn’t reflect his true standing.

Rather than dwell solely on the past, MJF pivoted when AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight interrupted. Knight challenged Friedman’s complaints, reminding him that he had previously come close to pinning him and positioning himself as a fighting champion.

The exchange quickly escalated. MJF mocked Knight’s credentials while sarcastically praising his title, noting he’d enjoy taking it just as much as he enjoyed taking shots — verbal ones, at least.

“What do I get out of wrestling Kevin?” Friedman questioned, before admitting the TNT Championship suddenly had his attention. He proposed a match with the title on the line, turning the segment into an unexpected pivot from world title frustration to mid-card gold ambition.

Knight accepted the challenge on the spot, ready to defend his title immediately. However, in classic MJF fashion, Friedman backed off, telling Knight he’d “dance with the devil next week” instead — proving once again he’s as strategic as he is outspoken.

According to Fightful Select, MJF remains central to AEW’s creative plans, with his involvement confirmed for Double or Nothing and beyond.

His next move may not be a straight line back to the world title, but it’s clear he’s not stepping out of the spotlight anytime soon — he’s just switching belts, not gears.
