Could Ireland be the next overseas location for WWE WrestleMania? A local councillor says the country is “well placed” to host the PLE.
WWE is set to take the Grandest Stage of Them All outside the United States for the first time since 2002 next year, with WrestleMania 43 taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With the doors potentially open for the PLE to go overseas again in the coming years, Kilkenny Councilor Maurice Shortall told the Irish Mirror that Ireland is “well placed” to make a bid for the Show of Shows.
The Councilor believes that Ireland would be an excellent venue for WWE WrestleMania and intends to present his suggestion to the government.
“As a globally recognised event with the capacity to attract tens of thousands of international visitors and generate substantial international media exposure, WrestleMania presents a significant opportunity for Ireland to strengthen its position as a leading destination for major event tourism.”
He believes hosting WWE WrestleMania will benefit all of Ireland
“The wider regional benefit to counties such as Kilkenny would be substantial, with strong potential for tourism spillover, increased domestic travel, and enhanced international visibility for Ireland’s secondary tourism destinations.
“Ireland is well placed to present a credible and competitive bid for WrestleMania, given our strong international tourism brand, proven track record in hosting major events, and global reputation as a welcoming destination,” he said.
WWE President Nick Khan recently teased the WrestleMania 44 location during a town hall meeting, saying, “Wait until you hear the announcement on where we’re going to be for WrestleMania in 2028.” However, he didn’t provide additional hints about the location.
While WWE recently brought episodes of RAW (January 2026) and SmackDown (August 2025) to Ireland, the country is yet to host a PLE.
