Cody Rhodes may be one of WWE’s biggest stars. But outside the ring, “The American Nightmare” is still learning the ropes of fatherhood.
While speaking with Us Weekly at the Disney Upfronts on May 12 in New York City, Rhodes opened up about raising two daughters. Moreover, he revealed what he would say if they ever decided to enter the wrestling business.
The WWE star and wife Brandi Rhodes welcomed their first daughter, Liberty, in June 2021 before adding Leilani to the family in Aug. 2025. Although both children are still very young, Rhodes admitted the idea of them becoming wrestlers has already crossed his mind.
Speaking about the challenge of being a “girl dad,” Cody Rhodes joked that it has forced him into unfamiliar territory.
“The best part, I think, is also the worst part,” Rhodes admitted. “You are confronted by a complete lack of knowledge of what you’re supposed to be doing.”
He added that raising daughters has become “a whole new world” for him — a fitting pun considering the interview took place during Disney’s upfront presentation.
Cody Rhodes says his daughters must be “the best” if they wrestle
When asked directly what he would tell Liberty and Leilani if they wanted to follow the Rhodes family legacy into wrestling, Cody pointed back to advice imparted by his late father, Dusty Rhodes.
“I would say the same thing my dad said,” Rhodes explained. “‘Cool, you can go into it, but you have to be the best.’”
He admitted that the standard is “easier said than done.” Nevertheless, he still believes his daughters “could certainly do it.”
The comments carry extra weight considering wrestling runs deep in the Rhodes family tree. Dusty Rhodes became one of wrestling’s most influential figures, while Cody’s brother Dustin Rhodes continues to compete today.
For now, though, the WWE Champion seems focused less on title belts and more on family milestones. He described Liberty as “a big sense of occasion” child and joked he’s hoping for something special around Father’s Day.
Still, Cody Rhodes made it clear what matters most to him right now — calling his daughters “the best little warrior princesses you could ask for.”
