AEW star MJF recently claimed that WWE attempted to make AEW look bad by spreading rumors about the company’s television future. His comments came after reports surfaced alleging that WWE higher-ups believed AEW could struggle to secure its next TV rights deal.
The rumors quickly gained attention across the wrestling world, with AEW President Tony Khan responding publicly and dismissing concerns about the company’s future. Khan also suggested that some of the stories may have been spread in bad faith. Now, MJF has shared his own thoughts on the situation.
MJF claims Warner Bros. Discovery is ‘over The moon’ with AEW
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, MJF addressed the reports and claimed he believes the rumors were part of a larger media strategy from WWE.
“I have talked about jolly old Saint Nick before. I’m a Nick Khan fan. I like Nick Khan. I understand what Nick Khan’s doing. Nick Khan’s job, this is WWE, this is AEW. Nick Khan’s job is to do this and to make everybody look at this, and it makes sense. It’s smart, but we also have to be smart about what sources we listen to.”
“There was something last week where WWE sources were saying that AEW is struggling to get a TV deal. Come on, bro. Come on, bro. Warner is over the moon with us. That would be like Coca-Cola’s sources saying that Pepsi makes their liquids entirely of ass juice. It’s like let’s look at the source and then judge on it. Right? So, it’s like that was weirdly.”
When asked if he believed the reports were intentionally planted, MJF answered without hesitation. “Yeah, of course. It’s a game of trying to control the media and trying to control the way people think because for the longest time it was very easy, as I was saying earlier, ‘AEW bad.'”
