Booker T Claims WWE Commentator Was Fired Over Emotional On-Air Reaction

Booker T recently claimed that former WWE commentator Matt Striker was fired after his emotional on-air reaction during his surprise return at the 2011 Royal Rumble.

Booker T made a surprise return during the 2011 Royal Rumble match, where commentator Matt Striker loudly reacted on commentary by shouting, “No way it’s a mark out moment. I’m marking out bro.”

The reaction later became one of the most memorable commentary moments from the event. Now, Booker T believes that reaction may have cost Striker his WWE commentary job.

Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast with O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson, Booker T discussed the famous Royal Rumble moment after the hosts brought up Striker’s commentary. He said, “Hey, Matt Striker got fired for that.”

When asked whether Striker was really fired because of the moment, Booker T doubled down on the claim. “I think that’s the reason Matt Striker got fired. I’m told that’s the reason Matt Striker got fired because he marked out as a commentator.”

Booker T also explained that WWE handled commentary very differently during that time period. “And the thing is, you got to understand things were different back then.”
