Nic Nemeth Reveals Why He Finally Accepted WWE Return After Turning It Down Several Times

Nic Nemeth explains why he initially turned down opportunities to reappear in WWE.

Last November, WWE fans saw the surprise return of Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, as part of The Last Time Is Now tournament. According to Nemeth, WWE had actually inquired about him coming back multiple times before. It wasn’t until WWE began honoring John Cena, his former rival, that he finally agreed, though.

“They had asked me to come back a couple different times for some other things, and I was like, ‘Uh, I don’t know. It’s been two years. I don’t really want to,’ and then they said, ‘This is for Cena,'” Nemeth recalled on the Sweet Pop podcast. “They said, ‘We’ve had a million matches together.’ Incredible guy. We’ve done so much. We have a story. We have a history, and I know all the good that he’s done. You could roll down a Santa Claus list of everything he’s done, what he’s done for us in the back, what he’s done to help the guys and girls, what he’s done granting wishes… everything. Come on, he’s the greatest of all time. So now, come back for this tournament? Yeah, hell yeah, I’ll come back. I really wanted to go, ‘I want you to see how good I am still.” (H/T Fightful)

Nemeth’s WWE appearance resulted in a loss to Solo Sikoa in the first round of The Last Time Is Now tournament. “The Ring General” Gunther went on to win the whole thing by besting LA Knight in the finals.

Nemeth departed WWE in September 2023, with a contract signing with TNA Wrestling following in the early months of 2024. Nemeth has remained in TNA since, now with a reign as TNA World Champion and TNA Tag Team Champion to his name.
