Beth Phoenix is back, and Cage and Cope are once again holding gold.
Christian Cage and Adam Copeland kicked off AEW Double or Nothing with a big win over FTR in an “I Quit” match. The match featured plenty of big spots and the use of wrenches, flaming tables, chairs and spiked 2x4s.
Beth Phoenix, billed as Beth Copeland in AEW, made her return after Stokely Hathaway got involved in the match. Beth came to the ring and was immediately sent into the ring steps by Dax Harwood. Once she regained her composure, Beth ultimately avoided going through a flaming table. However, Stokely and Cash Wheeler were the ones who crashed and burned on the floor.
Beth played a role in the final result of the match. She tipped the ring steps over while Cope and Cage had Dax Harwood in a Sharpshooter/Crossface combo. She found a spiked 2×4 and threw “Spike” into the ring, allowing Cope to drive it into Dax’s head.
Dax finally screamed “I Quit” as Cope pressed the weapon into the top of his head, meaning Cage and Cope are the new AEW World Tag Team Champions. A tearful Beth celebrated with her husband after the referee called for the bell.
Cope and Cage win tag gold together for the first time in 20+ years
This is the first appearance by Beth Copeland in AEW since All Out: Toronto last year; it’s her second overall. Last year, she was taken out by a spike piledriver by FTR. However, this time, she left after celebrating her family’s big win.
This is the first tag team championship win for Cope and Cage since they held the WWF Tag Team Championship in 2001. It’s also the first tag team title win for Copeland since he and Chris Jericho held the titles in WWE in 2009.
