Paul Wight Reveals Two AEW Stars He Wants to Face Before Retirement

AEW star Paul Wight, formerly known as Big Show in WWE, recently revealed the two wrestlers he hopes to face before officially retiring from in-ring competition.

Wight last competed in January 2024 during the Chris Jericho Cruise. Since then, he has continued working backstage in AEW while mentoring younger talent.

Paul Wight wants matches against Kenny Omega and Darby Allin

Speaking to Sporf’s James Sweetnam, Paul Wight named Kenny Omega and Darby Allin as the two AEW stars he would most like to wrestle before retirement. He said, “I have two people in AEW that I would love to work with or against. One is Kenny Omega… I would love to see something like that happen before I retire. I would also like to do the same with Darby. I love Darby.”

He also praised Darby Allin’s toughness and fearless wrestling style. “I think Darby is – no pun intended – tougher than a coffin nail. He’s a tough kid, he’s a good kid, he works hard, his heart is in the right place. I think he’s a little bit fearless with some of the stuff he does, I want to pull him aside like ‘Hey man, hit the brakes a little bit.’ But they’re young, they’re going to go wide open, and I respect Darby for that.”

Wight added. “I would love to be a bad guy and wrestle Darby. I think we could really get a lot of visceral emotion from the crowd, to see a big giant sling Darby’s guts all over the place and then of course we’d have Darby hit me with a couple of coffin drops, roll me in a casket, and that’s the end of it. That would be fun.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]

Wight currently remains signed with AEW as a backstage mentor. It remains to be seen whether he will eventually share the ring with Kenny Omega or Darby Allin before retirement.
