Rhea Ripley Shares Emotional Reason WWE Clash In Italy Is Special

Rhea Ripley is heading into WWE Clash in Italy with a lot more than just her championship on the line.

Ripley will defend her title against Cargill on May 31 at WWE Clash in Italy. The match is a rematch from WrestleMania 42, where Ripley defeated Cargill and handed her the first singles loss of her WWE career.

Before the big event, Ripley shared an emotional message on social media about why competing in Italy means so much to her.

Rhea Ripley Shares Emotional Message About Late Grandmother

Ripley revealed that she is dedicating the match to her late grandmother, who passed away in April 2023.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Italy but never had the opportunity. This weekend I finally get to live that dream at #ClashInItaly! My Nonna was one of the most important and strongest people in my life,” Ripley wrote.

She also explained that Italy holds a special place in her heart because it is where her grandparents grew up. Ripley said the trip feels like finally visiting a place connected to her family and roots.

“Going to the country where her and my Nonno grew up feels like I’m about to visit a home I’ve never had the pleasure to experience. I miss you every day! This one’s for you! I hope I make you proud when you look down on me,” Ripley shared.

The emotional message adds even more meaning to Ripley’s rivalry with Cargill. Their feud started during the road to WrestleMania 42.

Things have become even more intense in recent weeks. B-Fab and Michin teamed up with Cargill, forcing Ripley to team up with former rivals Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss to even the odds. The two sides recently faced off at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Ripley’s team looked in control early, but Cargill’s team won eventually.

However, Ripley seems more motivated than ever as this match is no longer only about keeping the championship. It is also about honoring her grandmother while competing in a country tied closely to her family history.
