A WWE star may have accepted help from Paul Heyman recently, but that doesn’t mean he plans to become the next “Paul Heyman Guy.”
The rumors started after the March 30 episode of RAW. During the show, Seth Rollins attacked Paul Heyman with a chair. A few moments later, Gunther came out and attacked Rollins, and it seemed like he was helping Heyman. That instantly got fans talking about whether Heyman had found a new star to work with.
The speculation grew even more during the April 6 RAW when Gunther and Heyman shared a backstage segment. Heyman thanked the Ring General for helping him and admitted he owed him a favor. Gunther replied that he would take that favor when the time was right.
That eventually led to Heyman helping him get moved to SmackDown and into the Undisputed WWE Championship picture against Cody Rhodes for Clash in Italy.
Gunther explains why he doesn’t want Paul Heyman as his manager
Speaking on the No Contest Wrestling podcast, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion addressed the rumors about a possible long-term partnership with the WWE Hall of Famer. While Gunther admitted Heyman helped him get a title shot against Rhodes, he made it clear the partnership was only temporary.
When asked if he would consider Heyman as his manager, Gunther replied,
“No. I mean, to be fully honest, it was very useful to have him there in that position. But those interactions in that time have been enough to make me realize that I’m better off on my own.”
The Ring General also explained that he has always trusted his guts throughout his career and doesn’t feel the need to rely on someone else for guidance.
“I don’t need somebody in my ear. I always trusted my gut my whole career, and it’s mostly been the right decision. So I wouldn’t change that,” he said.
Despite that connection with Heyman, Gunther’s comments make it clear the relationship was strictly business.
