Alexa Bliss found herself at the center of online discussion after the May 29 episode of WWE SmackDown, where she lost to Jade Cargill in a featured match just days before Clash in Italy.
The segment started with Jade Cargill coming to the ring alongside Michin and B-Fab. Cargill, who is set to challenge Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship at Clash in Italy, declared that she had nothing left to prove and claimed she was on a different level from everyone else.
Rhea Ripley soon interrupted and reminded Cargill that she had already beaten her at WrestleMania and promised to do it again at Clash in Italy. Moments later, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss joined the conversation.
Bliss said Cargill had “the ego of a legend” but “the résumé of a rookie.” Cargill fired back by calling Bliss a “little girl” and accusing her of being Flair’s ragdoll. Bliss then reminded Cargill that she had shared the ring with far bigger and better competitors throughout her career.
The heated exchange led SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis to make an impromptu match between Bliss and Cargill.
Alexa Bliss Says There Was More To The Match Than One Move
Bliss started strong, using her experience and quickness to keep the powerhouse off balance. However, Cargill’s strength eventually took control of the match.
Bliss fought back by targeting Cargill’s knee and landing several effective strikes. Outside interference from Michin briefly changed the momentum, but Flair and Ripley stepped in to even the odds.
In the closing moments, Bliss went for Twisted Bliss, but Cargill got her knees up. Jade then connected with a pump kick and followed it up with Jaded to score the victory.
While the match was good enough, most of the online discussion focused on what happened afterward.
After the bell, Cargill took out a steel chair and hit another Jaded.
Some fans criticized Bliss for the way she took the move, arguing that she appeared to protect herself and didn’t fully sell the impact. Many pointed out that she landed on her hands rather than appearing to hit the chair face-first.
One user even shared a side-by-side image questioning why Bliss was later shown backstage with ice packs on her face if the move didn’t appear to connect that way.
Bliss decided to respond directly. She wrote, “Elbows crushed -& boots to the face my friend – more to a match that just 1 move.”
The criticism continued. Another post compared the spot to former WWE star Santana Garrett, who barely sold Liv Morgan’s Oblivion a few years ago.
The criticism became so widespread that Bliss had made her X account private shortly after SmackDown ended.
