WWE’s Patience With Danhausen Is Paying Off Despite Early Backlash

Danhausen’s WWE run has become a major success story despite a rough start. While his debut received mixed reactions from fans, WWE remained committed to the character and has since turned him into one of the company’s biggest merchandise sellers.

Earlier this year, WWE heavily teased a mystery crate ahead of Elimination Chamber. Danhausen was eventually revealed from the crate, but the live reaction in Chicago was underwhelming. Some fans also criticized the segment online and compared it to past WWE debut misfires.

Danhausen became a major success despite early criticism

Despite the initial backlash, WWE stuck with Danhausen and adjusted his presentation. The company scaled back some of the debut elements and allowed his natural comedic personality to shine on WWE RAW and WWE SmackDown.

His “Very Nice, Very Evil” gimmick has also become popular among fans. Since making his WWE debut, he has created chaos across the roster. Danhausen’s curses often lead to losses, distractions, or unexpected chaos. They have become one of the most entertaining parts of his character.

Rather than focusing entirely on his in-ring work, WWE has positioned Danhausen as a sports entertainer. His feud with The Miz and Kit Wilson led to his first Premium Live Event appearance at WrestleMania 42 alongside John Cena. He also picked up a tag team victory with his Minihausens at Backlash against The Miz and Kit Wilson.

The strategy quickly paid off. Danhausen reportedly became WWE’s No. 2 merchandise seller, with Fanatics frequently restocking his merchandise during WrestleMania season. Triple H and Nick Khan reportedly highlighted him as a success story during a company Town Hall meeting.

He also gained mainstream attention through multiple ESPN appearances and crossover exposure involving Stephen A. Smith. His involvement in the New York Knicks storyline further helped introduce him to a wider fans.

Overall, WWE continues to use Danhausen as a crossover attraction despite his limited in-ring exposure.
