Will Ospreay has officially started a new chapter in AEW, and he made sure fans noticed. Just after accepting Jon Moxley’s invitation to join the Death Riders on the July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay showed up with updated ring gear.
AEW later confirmed on social media that Ospreay is now officially a member of the Death Riders. The new gear made it clear that Ospreay’s decision at Forbidden Door wasn’t a one-time team-up.
Will Ospreay debuts new gear in his first match as a Death Rider
Dynamite opened with backstage footage from Forbidden Door, where Renee Paquette interviewed Will Ospreay after the event. Standing alongside Alex Windsor, Ospreay admitted he was struggling to put his emotions into words after everything that had happened.
Jon Moxley then interrupted proceedings. Ospreay asked Renee and Windsor to leave so they could talk privately.
Ospreay asked Moxley about something he had said weeks earlier, that he was starting to see “it” in him. Moxley explained that becoming the real deal isn’t about talking. It’s about living it every day.
Jon Moxley then spoke about protecting professional wrestling. He criticized the business for being full of people who constantly tear each other down. He then said that the Death Riders aren’t fighting for championships; they are fighting for wrestling itself.
Moxley then pulled out a Death Riders patch and told Ospreay he doesn’t give it to just anyone. Moxley invited him to ride with the group before handing him the badge and walking away.
Soon after, Kenny Omega approached Ospreay and congratulated him. But things became awkward when Omega noticed the Death Riders badge. The new Death Riders member told Omega that he had given up on himself. Omega disagreed and said joining the Death Riders wouldn’t change their relationship.
Later that night, Ospreay teamed with Moxley for the first time as official Death Riders members. They faced Blake Christian and Lee Johnson.
The cameras spotted that Ospreay’s tights now featured the Death Riders patch, confirming his new allegiance even before AEW officially announced it.
Christian and Johnson got off to a fast start, using quick tags and double-team moves to keep Moxley under pressure. Ospreay then entered the match. He brought his usual speed and athleticism, including a huge plancha that took out both opponents outside the ring.
As the match went on, the duo worked surprisingly well together. Moxley wore their opponents down before setting up his new teammate to finish things off.
The match ended with Moxley hitting the Paradigm Shift on Lee Johnson. Ospreay then followed up with the Hidden Blade to score the pinfall victory.
