Will Ospreay experienced an awkward moment during the opening minutes of AEW Dynamite on June 24, as a backstage segment featuring the Death Riders ended with the former International Champion losing his footing.
The incident took place before the show’s opening match and quickly became a talking point among fans.
While it had no impact on the night’s results, it certainly wasn’t the smoothest start for one of AEW’s top stars.
Will Ospreay stumbles during Death Riders backstage huddle
Dynamite opened with a backstage promo from the Death Riders ahead of their trios bout. Jon Moxley addressed his teammates and emphasized the group’s mindset before heading to the ring for action.
As the segment wrapped up, Daniel Garcia invited Ospreay to join the faction’s pre-match huddle. The group gathered together and began jumping in a circle as part of the ritual. However, as the huddle broke apart, Ospreay appeared to lose his balance and fell to the floor before quickly being helped back to his feet.
For a wrestler known as The Aerial Assassin, it was a rare moment where he seemed grounded a little earlier than planned. Fortunately, the stumble appeared harmless, and Ospreay continued with his scheduled appearance later in the night.
The backstage segment preceded a trios match. The featured matchup saw Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta defeat Bandido, Brody King, and Místico. The Death Riders’ intense pre-match presentation has become a regular feature on Dynamite, often highlighted by Marina Shafir’s signature slap to Moxley before he heads into battle.
Despite the brief mishap, Ospreay rebounded later in the evening. He competed in a singles match against El Phantasmo and secured the victory with the Hidden Blade.
The timing is notable as Ospreay heads toward a major opportunity at Forbidden Door 2026. He is set to face Swerve Strickland in the final of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament, with the winner earning an AEW World Championship match at All In 2026 in London. One slip-up on Dynamite won’t change that destination.
