Raja Jackson, the son of MMA legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, has started serving a 90-day jail sentence after pleading no contest in an assault case involving professional wrestler Stuart Smith.
The 25-year-old was booked into a Los Angeles County jail on Thursday, nearly a year after the August 2025 incident at a KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy event in Sun Valley left Smith seriously injured.
The case gained considerable attention because it happened during a professional wrestling event, where physical action is usually scripted. However, prosecutors said the situation went far beyond the planned performance and resulted in real injuries that required medical treatment.
Raja Jackson begins serving his sentence
Jackson accepted a plea deal in May, pleading no contest to a battery charge.
LA Times reports that as part of the agreement, he must spend 90 days in jail, serve two years of formal probation, and pay Stuart Smith $81,000 in restitution.
Court records show Jackson turned himself in on Thursday to begin serving his sentence. His attorney, Michael Freedman, said Jackson is expected to complete the jail term before returning to court for another hearing in late September.
The incident started backstage before the match.
Smith, who wrestles as “Syko Stu,” hit Jackson over the head with a beer can. Video from the event reportedly showed Smith apologizing right afterward. He believed Jackson was part of the wrestling storyline and was simply playing his character.
Later in the show, Jackson entered the ring during Smith’s match in what first looked like a normal storyline interruption. But according to witnesses, things quickly became real when Jackson slammed Smith to the mat and repeatedly punched him.
Court documents say Smith suffered a concussion, broken facial bones, several missing teeth, and other serious injuries. He later received treatment for a traumatic brain injury, a shattered upper jaw, and underwent bone graft surgery.
During Thursday’s hearing, Smith spoke about how the attack has affected his life.
He said his recovery has been long and is still ongoing. He also revealed that he continues to deal with memory problems and reduced cognitive function, which have kept him from working for nearly a year.
Despite everything, Smith told the court that he doesn’t hold a grudge against Rampage Jackson’s son. He said he isn’t looking for revenge and believes people can make “terrible decisions in difficult moments.”
