AAA Star Confirms Undergoing Surgery After Recent WWE NXT Injury

AAA star El Hijo del Vikingo has confirmed that he is undergoing surgery after suffering an injury during WWE NXT rehearsals last week. The popular luchador shared the news on social media and thanked his fans, WWE, AAA, and his family for supporting him. However, it’s still unclear how serious the injury is or how long he will be out.

Vikingo was originally scheduled to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper on the June 30 episode of WWE NXT. But after sustaining an injury during rehearsals, WWE replaced the match with a backstage attack angle involving Keanu Carver.

El Hijo del Vikingo confirms knee surgery

On Monday, Vikingo announced that he would have surgery on Tuesday. He shared the update on Instagram along with photos of himself on crutches, wearing a brace on his left knee.

In his post, Vikingo wrote:

“Your way, God, not mine.

Family, Mr. HDLV is going into surgery tomorrow. Thank you for your support.

A grateful heart weighs less. “Gratitude.” Thank you for your support and kindness.@dorianroldanaaa @wwe @luchalibreaaa @wwenxt

Thank you to my wife for always being there in good times and bad. I love you very much.@aleidis_oficial

Thanks to my brother for the support @wwefelixfernandezSay hello to me….”

Although Vikingo confirmed he is having surgery, he didn’t unveil details about his injury or a timeline of his absence. WWE and AAA have also not announced whether the injury will affect the AAA Latin American Championship.

The injury comes during a busy time for Vikingo. Just a few days earlier, he faced Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship during a WWE SmackDown taping.

WWE quickly changed its NXT plans by turning Vikingo’s real injury into part of the show.

Sadly, this isn’t Vikingo’s first major injury. In 2024, he missed several months after tearing his meniscus and damaging ligaments in his right knee. Earlier this year, he also appeared to hurt his shoulder during a AAA match against Mini Vikingo, but he recovered quickly and returned to defend his championship.
