Former WWE Star Calls WWE’s Oba Femi Booking ‘Weird’

Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy thinks Oba Femi’s booking is “weird.”

Speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the reigning TNA World Tag Team Champion shared his thoughts about Oba Femi’s current WWE booking. Femi won the 2026 King of the Ring Tournament but traded the world title shot he earned for a Hell in a Cell match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Hardy says Oba Femi’s booking feels ‘weird’

Hardy says he can see why the match is happening, but stated it feels weird that WWE had Femi win the King of the Ring Tournament but didn’t put him in world title contention. He stated that the decision undermines the tournament’s integrity and suggests that the promotion is failing to fulfill its promise to fans.

“That’s strange … I’m okay with that, especially with where they’ve been. That’s a solid place for them to go, I think … rubber match. So, yeah, I can see that. And I think they’re such big stars and they’ve been portrayed as such big stars. I think it justifies a Hell In A Cell match. I can see that,” Hardy said.

“It’s just weird to have him win that King of the Ring Tournament with that stake and then not follow through with it. I feel like these things need to be mapped out further in advance. I think it kind of just undermines the stipulation or stakes. You want your fan base to say, ‘Oh, if we’re promising you something, you know you’re going to get it,'” he said about Oba Femi’s booking [H/T WrestlingInc].

Despite his thoughts on the booking, Hardy stated that he doesn’t hate the idea of delaying Oba Femi’s world title win, explaining that he wants fans to be salivating over the idea of seeing a title around the Ruler’s waist.
