Kevin Knight’s push in AEW could be getting even bigger. Just a couple of months after joining the Don Callis Family, the TNT Champion is already being talked about as a possible challenger for the AEW World Title.
Knight won the TNT Championship at AEW Dynasty on April 12. He secured victory via a Casino Gauntlet Match after Kyle Fletcher had to vacate the title after suffering an injury.
Knight has defended the TNT Championship against Mike Bailey, Myron Reed, Dezmond Xavier, and Lio Rush. He has also become a regular part of the Don Callis Family’s rivalry with The Conglomeration.
Knight’s profile grew even more at Forbidden Door. He teamed with Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Andrade El Idolo, and MJF in one of the night’s biggest matches, even though his team didn’t win.
World championship picture could be next for Kevin Knight
Knight has made it clear that he wants to compete for the AEW World Championship. He has recently talked about wanting a title shot on AEW TV. Moreover, he even challenged MJF for the championship earlier this year.
According to Fightful Select, AEW has discussed giving Knight a future world title match. Nothing official has come to light yet. Nevertheless, the report says AEW Redemption is still being considered as a possible event for the match. AEW is also reportedly planning storylines for Knight against wrestlers who are already established in the main event scene.
Fightful Select reported:
“Sources in AEW claimed that Kevin Knight had been discussed for an upcoming AEW World Championship, and as of now, AEW Redemption wasn’t completely off the table.”
The report suggests AEW also wants to pair Knight with other top-level stars in future storylines. While no names have been mentioned, it shows the company sees him as someone who can move into the main event.
The timing is interesting because Kenny Omega is now the AEW World Champion after winning the title on last week’s Dynamite. Omega is also set to celebrate his championship victory on this week’s show.
Omega has a long history with Don Callis, who betrayed him in 2023. Since Knight is now one of Callis’ top stars, a feud between the TNT Champion and the AEW World Champion might fit into that ongoing story.
