WWE reportedly had very different plans for Brock Lesnar this summer.
Lesnar is now set to face Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell at WWE SummerSlam. However, a new backstage report claims that was not the original direction. WWE reportedly changed several major storylines before finalizing the card.
Report claims Brock Lesnar was originally set to face Gunther at WWE SummerSlam
Speaking during a Self Made Session, Ibou of Self Made discussed WWE’s original creative plans. He claimed Lesnar was initially scheduled to face Gunther at WWE SummerSlam. Gunther was also expected to wrestle Roman Reigns earlier this year.
“Yeah, that’s what it feels like, for sure, I mean, literally, they gave the Bron-Roman match to Oba, and then whatever happened there, happened, and that isn’t happening either. But neither here nor there.”
“To be honest, part of that also was Gunther was supposed to face Brock at SummerSlam, and Gunther was actually supposed to face Roman in the, like, late spring, early summer. And for whatever reason, that got changed, and then that switched up a lot of people’s creative.”
According to the report, those changes affected several top stars. WWE eventually moved in a different creative direction. Roman Reigns is now scheduled to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Lesnar is preparing for his Hell in a Cell match against Oba Femi. Bron Breakker is currently teaming with Austin Theory. Meanwhile, Gunther is feuding with Cody Rhodes. He will team with Sami Zayn against Cody Rhodes and CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
