Released WWE Star Lands Mystery Acting Role Ahead Of In-Ring Return

Recently released WWE Superstar Santos Escobar (currently going by Hijo del Fantasma) has landed a mystery acting role ahead of his in-ring return.

WWE released Santos Escobar along with several other performers as part of its post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts in April. Escobar’s release came after he underwent surgery for a torn triceps. While the promotion initially allowed him to use the Performance Center for rehab during his 90-day non-compete period, they later denied him access.

After recently announcing on social media that he’ll be a free agent soon, Santos Escobar is set to appear at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. However, the announcement on Instagram also stated that the former WWE star has secured a role in a mystery feature film, saying it’s expected to be a breakout performance.

“SDCC @comic_con GUEST ANNONCEMENT – He has held championship gold everywhere he has been – CMLL, AAA, Lucha Underground and NXT/WWE. He is a second generation lucha legacy and as successful as he has been his future is looking even brighter as he prepares to return to the ring once he has completed filming a yet to be publicly announced feature role in what is set to be a breakout performance.

“@escobarwwe will be making his first public appearance of the summer on Friday and Saturday from 12-2 PM at the Masked Republic & @headlockedcomic booth 1901! A very special limited edition art print of Hijo del Fantasma by @dnhills will be available to get signed plus photo ops and more merch. Don’t miss it!” the announcement read.
