Real Estate Agent Quits Job to Pursue Lucha Libre Wrestling Dream in Mexico

A real estate agent is trading in his license for a luchador mask.

A recent report from the BBC highlights the story of Callum Aslantepe, a former real estate agent from Swindon, England. In January, Aslantepe shuttered his estate agency business and made the surprise move to Mexico, to chase his dream job of being a lucha libre wrestler. According to Aslantepe, he’s been there before in 2025 on a successful tour, and compares the shows he’d perform in England with those of Mexico.

“It’s a huge part of the culture here. For an average show in the UK we’d get maybe 300 people on a good night, in Mexico we’re talking thousands of fans,” Aslantepe said. After falling in love with wrestling as a kid, Aslantepe attended a training school in Swindon run by 4FW, which is now known as British Kingdom Pro Wrestling.

After a decade away from the sport, Aslantepe got back into it, and began touring the UK and Wales with the company. According to the wrestler, his character, Prince Phoenix, is a “rudo,” a villain known for bending the rules in his matches.

“I keep Phoenix close to myself but turn it up by 1,000, so everything’s a bit more flamboyant,” Aslantepe said. “I grew up watching wrestling and always favoured the bad guys and it’s a lot easier to get somebody to not like you. Prince Phoenix is a cool guy but I wouldn’t get on his bad side.”

Even though he’s a villain, the wrestler joked that he’s used to being mobbed by fans.

“Whether you’re a técnico or a rudo, you get mobbed by fans and it sometimes takes me 30 minutes to get to the locker room,” said Aslantepe.
