Breaking News: Rickson Gracie Confirms He Plans to Fight on New Years Eve. Over a year ago here on The FightWorks Podcast, we spoke with Breno Sivak, who is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from Gracie Humaita in Rio de Janeiro. Sivak has been a long time friend of Rickson Gracie, and in our conversation claimed that Rickson was preparing to fight another mixed martial arts fight in December 2006. Sivakâs claim was dismissed as rumor by some, but this weekend at the Brazilian jiu-jitsu Mundials in Los Angeles, I spoke with Rickson Gracie personally and asked if there was any truth to Sivakâs statement. Rickson confirmed that he does indeed still intend to fight and is currently in negotiations with multiple MMA promotions to fight on December 31, 2007.

The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority is drafting new Statutes that will allow the agency to regulate amateur MMA shows. This has happened in response to local promoters asking the Authority to take action to curb promoters in the state who have no medical personnel on site and allow fighters with little or no experience to fight more experienced fighters among other issues.

The California State Athletic Commission will hear the appeal of UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk Wednesday, Oct. 31 in Los Angeles, according to CSAC Staff Analyst William Douglas. The commission fined the Minnesotan $2,500 and suspended him for one year after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid Nandrolone Metabolite following his successful title defense against Hermes Franca at UFC 73 in July.

10 fighters on the UFC 74: Respect fight card on 8/25/07 were drug tested by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The ten fighters tested were Roger Huerta, Alberto Crane, Georges St-Pierre, Josh Koscheck, Kendall Grove, Patrick Cote, Frank Mir, Antoni Hardonk, UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga. (title fights and main event fighters are always drug tested.
