Last Friday at the TNA house show in Louisville, Kentucky, former WWE Tag Team Champions The Basham Brothers made their long awaited debuts in TNA. On the card, Rhyno was scheduled to take on a mystery opponent in a street fight. His opponent was revealed to be Doug Basham. During the match, there was a great deal of interference by Basham’s former tag team partner, The Damaja. The two are not actually brothers as they were portrayed in WWE. The Damaja (formerly Danny Basham) had “Damaja” written on his tights and t-shirt. It is the same gimmick he used in WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling before getting called up to SmackDown. Doug Basham and The Damaja had a very heated feud in OVW, with Damaja perceived to have more potential as a heavyweight singles star. It is unknown is the two will remain affiliated on television in TNA storylines.
TNA is taking their show on the road in 2007. There have already been multiple house shows and Pay-Per-View events outside of Orlando, Florida. The company plans to keep the momentum going for their biggest PPV event of the year, Bound For Glory. The company plans to bring its flagship event of the year, Bound For Glory, to Chicago, Illinois this October. There has been no confirmation made yet regarding the date or venue. Last year’s BFG was held in Detroit, Michigan and saw the largest live crowd in TNA history. Bound For Glory in Chicago would be the third TNA PPV this year to take place outside of the iMPACT! zone in Orlando, Florida. Already, TNA Lockdown took place in St. Louis, Missouri and TNA Slammiversary is set to take place in Nashville, TN.
This week’s TNA iMPACT! will feature one of the biggest “dream matches” the company can produce. They could have saved it for the main event of a Pay-Per-View but we’ll see it Thursday night on SpikeTV. For the first time ever, the legend Sting will take on Kurt Angle. TNA has been struggling to break the 1.0 ratings barrier this year. Although Sting vs. Angle is a huge match, the company hasn’t had much time to promote the fight so it will be interesting to see if it has any significant effect on viewership.
