Ring of Honor “Best in the World” Results: Adam Cole Defends Against Michael Elgin, Bad Influence Returns to ROH, Kevin Steen’s Last Ride

ROH World Championship Match

Adam Cole (c) vs. Michael Elgin

The crowd seems about 60/40 in favor of Michael Elgin. A couple of people asking where his mullet has gone. #RIPMullet

Elgin spears the champion at the start of the match and goes to work with rights and lefts. Cole tries to springboard off the ropes, but Elgin just walks away and lets him crash and burn on the floor. Cole grabs a steel chair, but the challenger levels him with a rolling elbow. Cole goes flying into the barricade with a running powerslam. Back in the ring, Adam gets a big boot and a leaping neckbreaker. The crowd is now about 50/50 for either guy, as Elgin catches the champ off the ropes with boots to the face. He hits a Tiger Suplex with a bridge pin, but only gets two. Cole tries for a sunset flip bomb, but Elgin deadlifts him into a suplex; Cole reverses into a brainbuster on his knee. Elgin out of nowhere with a crossface, but Cole stacks him up for a pin and forces the submission break. In a spot I haven't seen before, Cole tries to escape to the apron, but Elgin deadlifts him up into a superplex and ends it in a Falcon Arrow. He climbs to the top rope and sets up for a massive powerbomb, but the champ hits a hurricanrana to send the big man crashing down. Frankensteiner – Florida Key – Elgin kicks out a two-and-a-half. Cole sets up for a superkick, but Elgin ducks and referee Todd Sinclair is DEAD. Elgin with a Buckle Bomb, followed by the Elgin Bomb; you can count forever, but nobody is there to count. Matt Hardy and Mike Bennett hit the ring and go on the attack, but the challenger picks them both up and hits them with a fallaway slam. He powerbombs Cole over the ropes and takes down both Hardy and Cole. Maria Kanellis gets on the apron and Elgin grabs her by the hair; he can't hit her, but Maria slaps him across the face and now he goes on the hunt. Bennett attacks from behind the ring and Cole comes off the top rope with an attempted Destroyer. Hardy with the title belt off the challenger's face, but War Machine – Hanson and Rowe – are here! They fight Bennett and Hardy to the back, but Elgin is knocked out and the referee is finally back up, counting. He gets up to a count of 19, and Elgin barely rolls back into the ring. The crowd is now about 95% behind the challenger, by the way. Maria is still there and throws Cole the title belt, but MsChif hits the ring and sprays the green mist in her eyes before laying her out. Elgin with the Buckle Bomb – the Elgin Bomb – 1…2….3….NO! He kicked out! That was so close, the fans start throwing streamers into the ring; Elgin is covered in streamers before they realize what happened (hilarious "we f***ed up" chant"). Cole has recovered and locks in the Figure Four around the ring post, until the referee makes him break the hold. He rolls back in the ring and gets caught with a small package for a two count. Elgin with a school boy roll-up, doesnt get it, and transitions immediately into a crossface. Cole punches away on his injured leg to force the break. Elgin gets to his feet, but the leg gives out under him, and the champ hits him with a superkick. Cole climbs to the top rope and comes down with…the Canadian Destroyer! He goes up top for a second Destroyer, but Elgin rolls through, hits the Buckle Bomb, hits an Elgin Bomb, deaflifts him up for a second Elgin Bomb – 1…2…3!
