Rashad Evans Responds to WWE Rumors

As we noted yesterday, top UFC star Rashad Evans, who is currently sidelined with an injury, reportedly reached out to WWE regarding a potential future in the company.

In response the report, Evans issued the following comment to MMA Mania:

“If I ever did anything like that [WWE], it would be after I finished fighting, and I’m not gonna (sic) be done fighting for at least four years. I had a million people asking me if I was retiring for wrestling, but honestly speaking, if I didn’t get seriously paid to do it I wouldn’t do it. I think it would be disrespectful to my legacy in the UFC if I didn’t do a deal that would make sense where I got paid! Besides, that s–t is harder on my body than fighting.”

In related news, The Wrestling Observer reports Vince McMahon is leery about hiring former MMA fighters as they are typically used to huge payoffs for one-off fights, and Vince’s concern is they wouldn’t be able to handle the WWE schedule.

Top MMA stars Chael Sonnen, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir and Shayna Baszler have all had talks with WWE in recent years and at one point there were even ideas suggested for Baszler.

With regards to Sonnen, however, given his drug test failures and the controversy that surrounds the Sonnen name, it’s highly unlikely he would ever end up in WWE.
