Alberto El Patron on Fighting Bill Goldberg; Has UFC Offered Him a Fight?

alberto del rioFormer WWE Champion Alberto el Patron denied rumors that he had been offered a fight with Bill Goldberg through GLORY, but did confirm that the two sides had been in talks, but that nothing materialized.

“I keep hearing this from a lot of people, but I’ve never heard anything from GLORY. They contacted me, they approached me, but we never talked about money or names or anything like that. Maybe they approached him and offered him some money and the possibility of fighting me, but that’s something only Bill Goldberg knows. I never got back from anybody from GLORY. If he needs to fight, good for him. If they give me the right amount of money that I want, then maybe, we’ll see. But I don’t think that’s gonna be the case, because again, I do so well in pro wrestling that I don’t think they’re gonna give me the money that I’m asking for.”

El Patron also claims that UFC made a pass at him for a possible fight, but that yet again it comes down to money. This is a well-reported fact by this point, but at 37-years-old Alberto has publicly stated he would fight again, but that nobody has been able to offer him a deal that’s worth stepping into the very real world of professional MMA at this point. It’s much more lucrative long-term to wrestle limited dates in pro wrestling, make comparable or better money, and not have the possibility of adding concussions or other serious MMA-related injuries into the mix. But if they money was there to make the risk worth it, Alberto will fight.

And for those “fantasy bookers” wondering, even if UFC offered him a million dollars to fight once, there’s very little chance he’d ever end up in the octagon with CM Punk. He’s a legit heavyweight, and even if he slimmed down tremendously and Punk bulked up a lot, it’s just not going to happen.
