Misc. Wrestling News

-Ring of Honor held their 200th television taping this week, including the farewell of Samoa Joe as he heads to WWE full-time. They taped five episodes of television including the 200th episode special, and we’ve got complete spoiler-filled coverage of each show.

samoa joeRing of Honor ‘Best in the World’ aired on PPV and IPPV this past Friday. Jay Lethal beat Jay Briscoe in the main event to become the undisputed champion, holding both the TV and world titles.

-TNA star Bobby Lashley improved his professional MMA record to 13-2 with a TKO victory at this week’s Bellator PPV.

Gunner has officially parted ways with TNA. The 33-year-old started with the promotion back in 2010 as a brawler for the Immortal faction. He had a brief run with the TNA Television title in 2011, and worked with a few major names at live events throughout his early years (Storm, Roode, Styles, Team 3D) but never really got off the ground on TV. Gunner had his biggest run while teaming with James Storm, winning the tag titles at Slammiversary. Again, the two faced off against big names for months at live shows, and found moderate success on TV, but dropped the titles at Bound for Glory. The Gunner/Storm breakup produced some solid material while it lasted, but ultimately ended too quickly with a cage match at Lockdown 2014, after which he fizzled in the lower card until being granted his release.

-Lucha Underground is eligible to win a primetime Emmy award this year, for their incredible first season on El Rey. They are on the official ballot, but it’s unlikely they will make it to the final voting stages that lead to the actual awards.

–TNA made an attempt to sign Rey Mysterio recently, according to reports. Despite the ongoing financial issues, and controversy regrading Destination America rumors, and doing about half the number of homes as they were this time last year, they allegedly made a fairly substantial offer to the former WWE Champion.

-Angle vs. Carter will not be taking place at Slammiversary as originally planned, because switching to Wednesday nights completely screwed up their TV taping schedule and they couldn’t do it without spoiling the PPV result. Instead TNA is bringing back the King of the Mountain match
