Variety is reporting current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is set to star in MGM Studios’ upcoming remake of the 1989 movie Road House.
Rousey is said to be playing a “female version” of Patrick Swayze’s character, James Dalton, from the original film.
Rousey, who has four acting credits on her resume already, including Furious 7 and Entourage, commented on her new role by posting the following to her Twitter account:
“It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn’t be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze. I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of.”
Production is expected to start next year; sources are reporting MGM are already meeting with screenwriters for the project. It was also reported that Rousey showed interest and agreed to the project after Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, gave her blessing after Rousey asked for it.
