Christopher Daniels Talks ROH’s 14th Anniversary Show, Does He Think WWE Has Interest In Him?, Daniel Bryan’s Early Retirement, More

On his match against Alex Shelley at Ring of Honor’s 14th Anniversary live tomorrow night on PPV:

CD: Alex Shelley took it upon himself to insert himself in to our business. He is the reason that we lost the ROH World Tag Team Championships. I don’t know what he’s trying to do in terms of our relationship with Chris Sabin. I don’t know if he’s trying to convince Chris that he is a better partner than we are but I am the person that helped bring Chris Sabin in to Ring of Honor. He came to help us to become the best trio that Ring of Honor has ever seen. Alex Shelley at this point is just making noise for no reason. I am going to end whatever challenge he’s got towards myself and Frankie Kazarian and show Chris Sabin that we are his true friends and not Alex Shelley.

On whether he thinks he will ever join his friends like Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Austin Aries in WWE:

CD: I don’t think so. I think WWE probably looks at me as someone whose time has… it’s probably a little to late in life to start for a company. I’ve had a relationship with Ring of Honor for a very long time. It was a very easy decision for them to bring me in. For WWE and NXT I completely understand that I think my best time to start might have been a couple of years ago. They might not see someone at my age being a good investment to sign to a long term contract. That’s fine. That’s their mentality and I certainly feel like I could off-set that mentality. At the same time I don’t blame them for not wanting to take that risk.

On whether or not seeing Daniel Bryan retire so young is something that makes the Ring of Honor locker room think about toning down their in-ring style:

CD: I think that everybody that walks in to a wrestling ring understands the danger of becoming a pro wrestler. All of us as wrestlers perform. We have our strengths, we have our weaknesses and some guys are willing to take what many would consider risks but to them it probably feels like a normal course of action. I myself feel I wrestle very smart, very safe, style. I still happen to do things that are dangerous or what could be considered dangerous to different wrestlers. We certainly are aware of the deal. I think one thing that people sort of miss or take in to consideration is the schedule Daniel Bryan had the last couple of years. He was basically wrestling five days a week. In Ring of Honor we have a much lighter schedule so when we do get injured there’s a lot less likelyhood that we will be wrestling the next day or the next five days. We have a much lighter schedule so it’s a little bit easier on our bodies to wrestle that style with the schedule that we have right now.
