Jim Ross On Michael Elgin In NJPW, WWE Almost Launching An MMA Company, How He Would Turn Bray Wyatt Face, Bellator 149, More

On what he thinks of Michael Elgin joining New Japan Pro Wrestling:

JR: I think he’s really a classic, traditional heel. I have had Mike on my The Ross Report podcast. He’s a very good guest, very intelligent. Very well spoken and he impressed me in that respect. I like his work. He doesn’t try to get too fancy which is really good for him. He doesn’t try to get too much in. He seems to be really smart how he delegates and how he structures his matches. Mike’s a good get for New Japan and I think that it will be a really good relationship all in all because he’s a keeper. No doubt about it.

On how serious Shane McMahon and the WWE were at one point in the mid-90’s about launching their own MMA company:

JR: That was just generally talked about in our senior management group. Hey, we looked at PBR, the Pro Bull Rider Tour. We looked at the Globetrotters. We looked at doing an MMA company. It was just all fact finding, due diligence and nothing ever looked good enough on paper to make an offer. The funds were there but we were just being careful on how we invested the funds. Nothing really passed all the tests that you needed for it to pull the trigger.
