John Cena Explains “U Can’t See Me” Origins, Lucha Underground Releases More ‘Austin Warfare’ Tickets

John Cena

WWE released an excerpt from John Cena’s new book Hustle, Loyalty & Respect: The World of John Cena“, explaining the origins of Cena’s “U Can’t See Me” catchphrase hand gesture.

In the new book, released today, Cena reveals how his brother helped him come up with his “U Can’t See Me” hand gesture. Cena says the move started as a joke, but a dare issued to him helped turn the move into his trademark taunt. Cena explains:

“It’s a gift and a curse because people who like me do it and so do people who don’t. The ‘You Can’t See Me’ thing was a joke from my little brother. My family is a bunch of idiots. This stupid song came on, we started dancing around and my brother Sean did this dance from a video where he moves his head around his hands. I just had to modify it a little bit. Instead of shaking my head around my hand, I shook my hand around my head.

Let me state for the record that I hate the word ‘catchphrase.’ It’s like ‘think outside the box’ or any of those other marketing terms. It’s just ugly.”
