Abyss on Matt Hardy Reinventing Himself, TNA’s Current Creative Direction and if The Decay Has Brought Back His Early Hunger

TNA star Abyss recently spoke with Total Wrestling Magazine and below are some interview highlights:

Has forming The Decay brought back a similar hunger as when you started with Impact?

“I think it has. We’re in a prime spot, I mean we’re the TNA world tag team champions right now, so with that comes a lot of responsibility and we’re also targeted by every tag team in the company. We got to be prepared for it, the group looks out for each other in and out of the ring. It’s reinvigorated an already great career for me.”

Let’s talk about the writing and creative direction in TNA, because one person who has really benefited from this new TNA vision is Matt Hardy, whose reinvented his self as “Broken” Matt Hardy, what are your thoughts on this?

“The first word that comes to my mind for Matt Hardy is brilliant. It takes a lot of guts and I don’t think people understand how much guts it takes for somebody to dive into a character like he has. He has really committed himself to the character from the tone of his voice, to the accent to the way he carries himself and the way he looks. He is 100% method acting this and becoming the character. I think a lot of the broken character is him opening up and letting you see the real Matt Hardy. From being one half of the Hardy Boys and being so successful throughout his career to change it and do a turn to become something else and to reinvent yourself, takes guts and it’s not an easy thing to do. He’s changed everyone’s perception of him over the last 20 years and it’s not easy to do.”
