As seen on WWE Raw last night, it was teased that when John Cena returns to WWE TV on Smackdown Live on July 4th, he will be a “free agent” in the company, freely able to appear on both Raw and Smackdown.

Also seen on Raw last night, Roman Reigns revealed he will be announcing his plans for WWE SummerSlam this year next week on Raw. This lead to speculation that Roman Reigns vs John Cena might be in the works for SummerSlam, however, Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that current plans do not call for Cena and Reigns to face each other at the big PPV this summer.

With Cena freely able to move between Raw and Smackdown, it’s possible Cena could face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam if Randy Orton loses this Sunday at Money in the Bank, and as Roman Reigns’ plans remain open as Brock Lesnar is scheduled to defend the Universal Title against a returning Braun Strowman at WWE SummerSlam.
