Sean Waltman Sounds Off On Wrestler Training Safety
On last night’s ESPN “30 For 30: Nature Boy” special about Ric Flair it was noted that when he and Ricky Steamboat were being trained by Verne Gagne they would do, “1000 bumps a day.”
Following that revelation former WWE Superstar Sean Waltman had the following to say regarding the safety precautions pro wrestlers should be taking when training:
100 bumps is absolutely ridiculous, forget 1000.

No one did bump drills & everyone bumped just fine where I learned Pro Wrestling. There are plenty of other ways to make students do the work besides destroying their bodies before they even get started.

I would have my students wear headgear if I had a school. Not tgat much of an investment for the potential benefit. Its not being a “pussy” to protect your brain when you’re not even in a match.

If so, it’s wrong. There are plenty of ways to run people off that doesn’t risk brain damage before a they even get started. https://t.co/JHILkovhDe
