Montez Ford On Participating In The African-American Read-In, Being A Great Example For NXT, When He Knew He Belonged In Wrestling

Montez Ford recently spoke with Jay Riddick for the Orlando Sentinel while promoting his participation in the African-American Read-In; you can read a few excerpts below:

Montez Ford comments on participating in the African-American Read-In this weekend in Orlando:

“It’s important [for African-American youths] to know that no matter what their background, they can make something of themselves in life. I hope I can be an example to show that if you stay in school and apply yourself, you will always have hope.”

Ford comments on taking on a mentor type role with younger trainees in NXT:

“I don’t consider myself a leader — I consider myself a great example. I can show people, ‘I got here this way. This is what I did.’ I’m there to offer advice, but it’s as more of a big brother.”

Ford comments on when he knew he belonged as a wrestler after a visit from his kids:

“Last summer, they all came to Florida and one day, they started imitating their father’s ring entrance, the moves of it and everything. I just thought, ‘OK, they get it. They see what Daddy does when he’s away.’ I travel so much that Daddy’s not there for them all the time, but knowing that they understood, that was when I felt like I belonged as a wrestler.”
