I can say with almost 100% certainty that nobody was surprised that Rousey is in the title hunt within the year of her debut and it is somewhat justifiable.

Rousey is a major attraction for the WWE. With the women’s division delivering the way it has in the past, bringing in a top female star the caliber of Rousey was the right move. WWE played a risky game with Rousey. There had to be a glimmer of doubt that their audience would be vocal against signing yet another mainstream star to leap frog their full time roster. Thankfully, however, that hasn’t been the case with Rousey since she’s been well received by the fans and her co-wrestlers alike. I’m glad to see she’s having her first match on Raw next week and hope it’s a more common thing to see.

With all of that being said, Rousey is booked to face Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam in a bout that could go a few ways. On paper, it has good star power but the two are obviously a mismatch. It’s the female equivalent to Lesnar vs Styles. That isn’t a bad thing given how well the match itself came to be and how close Styles came to defeating Lesnar. Will Rousey vs Bliss play out the same? It very well may. Here’s a couple of scenarios.

Rousey Defeats Bliss In Short Order

This scenario is the most realistic. This was also the most realistic and expected outcome for Bliss vs Jax at WrestleMania but WWE decided to give Bliss a fighting chance. I can understand WWE doesn’t want to tarnish the time they’ve invested in Alexa Bliss against someone like Nia Jax, who I don’t think is setting the world on fire. Against Rousey, that’s another story.

Rousey is a legit fighter who could easily portray the Brock Lesnar of the women’s division. The only other star on the Raw roster who could match or surpass Rousey’s power is Nia Jax but we’ve seen it once and, quite frankly, I don’t care to see it again.

Rousey could easily walk into the ring at SummerSlam, toss Bliss around, knock Mickie James off the ring apron and then force Bliss to tap out in a matter of seconds. While it’s not exactly a hero’s victory the story shouldn’t be to make Rousey an underdog. The fans would still eat the victory up and cheer the hell out of Rousey, likely giving one of the bigger reactions of the night with Rousey hoisting the championship overhead. Bliss and James would leave the arena with exasperated looks on their faces but thankful to still be alive.
