Exclusive: Flip Gordon On ROH’s UK Tour, Being The Elite, Brandi Rhodes, ROH’s Growth & More

We spoke exclusively to Flip Gordon ahead of Ring of Honor‘s Honor Reunited tour this week, as the promotion’s biggest names perform in Edinburgh, Doncaster and London, with tickets still being available here. Gordon is set to face off against Kip Sabian in the first round of the ROH International Cup in Edinburgh.

I’ll be at York Hall on Sunday providing WZ readers with live coverage of the London show as Jay Lethal defends his ROH World Championship against the winner of the International Cup, which could well be Flip.

On how quickly time flies with wrestlers:

It goes so quick, like, I can’t even remember what I did last weekend. It’s weird because it flies by quick but it’s so long at the same time. It’s really weird. Like this week I had five days off, so by the time I’m wrestling again it’s like man, that felt like forever ago.

On prioritising certain shows:

I kinda have a ‘first come first serve’ type of thing. Obviously I have favourite companies I like to work for so if they give me dates first I prioritise them, but mainly it’s first come first serve. I love wrestling everywhere, I love travelling, I love seeing new places.

On ROH’s Honor Reunited UK tour & British fans:

I haven’t been there since December, it’s been a while. So I’m excited to come, excited to see the fans again, and I know a lot of friends I have there. It’s a different type of environment over there. It’s a different crowd feel, but I love it. It’s so much fun and every single time I’ve been over there it’s been a blast. I’m very, very excited.

On ROH’s growth:

We’re growing every single month, especially partnering up with Rev Pro, CMLL and New Japan. So many guys get more opportunities, like my opponent in the tournament Kip. It’s his Ring of Honor debut, and that’s because of the partnership.

On working against guys who use the British style:

I love wrestling guys that wrestle the British style. I love the way that our styles blend, and I used to be an amateur wrestler so it almost brings me back to those kinds of days. It’s fun.

On the future of Flip on Being The Elite:

Gosh, I don’t even know. I mean, I gotta get booked for All In, Marty and Flip are taking Australia, I’m besties with Brandi Rhodes, there are so many different angles that could really pick up. I guess it truly depends on the fans and what they want. I’m excited to see where it goes because Being The Elite is the funnest time I’ve had in wrestling.

On Brandi Rhodes:

She’s so talented. Obviously, there’s going to be so many haters, but she’s done such a great job in doing her and learning and getting better. Obviously, she got injured, but as soon as she heals up she wants to wrestle again. She’s not a quitter.

On what British fans can expect on Honor Reunited tour:

Well, I’m super excited and whenever I’m this excited I tend to go all out – pun not intended! I’m gonna give 150%, it’s been so long since I’ve been in the UK and I wanna have the best matches I can, all the time but especially on this tour. You’re gonna get amazing matches, you’re gonna discover guys that you didn’t even know. It’s gonna be a great time.
